The Portal
Chapter 1
by Storm Chyld
In the land of Farhanna a portal opened. Raised from the ground, with marble archways, and a glowing blue vortex swirling inside it. It burst from the ground in a blue column of light, that lit the sky for miles. How it got there, why they have come, what lays beyond. No one knows.
The three most powerful kingdoms, The Council of Nine, the Black Sea Nomads, and Elven Nations, sent their bravest heroes to investigate. The three armies converged on the portal which sat where each kingdom's border touched.
The Council of Nine, boasted a thriving human population, which had trade routes up and down the coast line, verdant fields, and farms, and less space, then people. Ships had traversed the large ocean, in the hopes of expansion but with no luck. Perhaps the portal could allow them to expand, and remain virile.
The Elven Nations, lived in the primordial forest northwest of Council lands. They lived long and peaceful lives, but burned with a need to explore and learn the secrets of the world. What discovery could be made on the other side, of this wonderful portal?
The Black Sea Nomads, were a smattering of races, from goblins, to orcs, trolls, to ogres. They lived in the desert north east of the Council lands, where an ancient war had turned the once fertile land, to nothing but a waste land, filled with black sand. The taint from the destruction could see from the edges of the sand, where it rested right against the lush grass, and the forest, of the other two nation. Could this portal lead, their people to a new, and more prosperous land?
Each Nation though at peace with one another, greatly desired to enter the portal, and none could truly hold claim over it, because of its precise location. It was with this that they set up camp, in their own kingdoms, each guarded the gate vigilantly, as the politics were argued in a neutral structure, erected to please each kingdom.
Finally they came to an agreement. Beginning on the morrow, each kingdom would send three heroes, through the mysterious portal. If they did not return, they would send another envoy the next morning. What they didn't know, was this was only one portal. Other had cropped up across the world.
Which nation do you choose?
