The Iron King

The Iron King

What Is Dead May Never Die

Chapter 1 by The Archmaester The Archmaester

The sounds of screaming filled the air, as men were being mercilessly slaughtered like animals or being kept alive just long enough to see their homes burn and their women being by the Ironborn. Theon's Ironborn. They had sailed the Sunset Sea unnoticed and landed a thousand men a few leagues south of the city. They had smuggled into the darkness, under the cover of the westermen stragglers who had escaped the Battle of Oxcross, fleeing the approaching forces of the Young Wolf and the defenders of the city had opened the gates to them, much to their peril.

As Asha and his uncle, Victarion, assaulted the city by sea, Theon and his men had taken the city from the inside, slaying the Red Cloaks as they slept and opening the gates to the rest of his army and soon the sacking became a massacre. War was the only trade that the Ironborn knew. They were made to reave and .

Lord Stark would have never condone his actions, he thought guiltily as he saw his own men commit the most heinous crimes upon the civilians of the great city of Lannisport. But Lord Stark had lost his head in King's Landing and could not object to Theon anyone. Besides, this is what his own biological father wanted to inflict upon the North, his childhood home. Instead, Theon had challenged his own father for the right to sit upon the Seastone Chair. Balon could not object before his own lords and captains unless he was seen as weak. Besides, the traditional kingsmoot that decided a new king, there was a more ancient custom were the eldest son had the right to take his father's crown through trial by combat.

Theon would like to think that it was his exceptional skill with a blade that was perfected after years of hard training at the hands of Ser Rodrick Cassel, Robb and even Jon Snow that gave him the edge over the much experienced Reaver but in the end, his father had grown old, weak and complacent and it had been almost too easy to beat him into submission. He would have been satisfied with confining his disgraced father in a comfortable cell in Pyke for the rest of his days but his sister Asha had surprised both Balon and him when she suggested that Theon took Balon's sword hand.

"You're not having any regrets are you?" his sister broke him from his thoughts as she rode up to him on a pale mare, a sadistic smile plastered on her face. She was enjoying the carnage far too much for Theon's liking and he wondered what had happened to the sweet sister who would beg him to play with her and her dolls. But then again, she did spent nine years with their cruel father so something must have rubbed off on her.

"I regret that Tywin Lannister isn't here." Theon flashes his sister a cocky smile, putting on the mask of 'King Theon IV Greyjoy' that he wore in front of his captains and lord reavers. "I want to litter the greenlands with Lannister dead!"

"If you want to get your hands dirty, there's Lann's Hall." Asha nodded in the direction of a keep on the tallest hill of the city that was more fortified than any other building in Lannisport. His Ironborn had already begun to it, led by none other than his fearless uncle Victarion Greyjoy who was clad in his black plate armour and wearing his Kraken helm, making him look more like a tentacled-god than man. Theon wondered if his uncle was the bravest man in the world or the most foolish as Victarion led a direct on the castle despite being under a heavy barrage of arrows from the Red Cloaks.

"Might as well join the fun." Theon gave his sister a brief smirk before beckoning the four Ironborn raiders, sitting idly by his side.

"Boremund. Dagon. Quellon. Ralf. With me." Theon ordered the four Ironborn raiders next to him as he headed towards the seat of House Lannister of Lannisport. The four men were the first to pledge their swords to Theon when he was crowned beneath Nagga's bones on Old Wyk and they have been his loyal companions ever since, eager for gold and glory. Theon decided to finally let them loose as they rode towards the now burning Lann's Hall, giving them a chance to bloody their swords and perhaps take a highborn lady to warm their beds for a few days.

However, Theon only had the one intention as he headed towards the carnage his uncle was inflicting. Victarion often went berserk in battle and the slow-witted warrior would likely kill any golden-haired Lannister in his bloodlust. Theon needed to hold Lord Tywin's family hostage in order to have a degree of leverage and broker the safe return of Sansa and Arya.

But....

He hadn't had sex in weeks. And being king was a lonely job. Perhaps he could convince a Lannister maiden to keep him company on those long, cold nights at sea.

What does Theon do?
