Top experts in their fields gathered and agreed, the world was going to end. Humanity would not survive as it was, and the time they had left was only a precious few years before the calamity became unstoppable. the surface of the earth would be too hot to endure, crops would fail, people would die, the whole world would be in chaos. they capitalized on that few years to try to find a way to carry on humanities legacy.
Meetings were called, arguments were had, people made descions. they didnt know how long the calamity would last, didnt know when things would return to the normal state, potentially it could have been millions of years. many people elected for underground shelters, but those who sought a more long term solution turned to genetic engineering.
Scientists crossed ethical lines with humanity on the line, beginning to create a structured genome for a perfect human with the intent to splice in the genetic code to the next generation.
fast foreward 1200 years and we see today the society they created. humanity had soft, smooth but deceptively tough and tender skin, resistant to the ultraviolet of the sun. this coupled with the heat has led to a majority of society prefering to wear nothing at all on most occasions. modesty was not a concern for these people, in fact the instincts they were encoded with make being seen naked by others into a positive feeling, a tweak made to ensure that this new segment of humanity would breed. similarly, looking through history books at just how much oppression and bad stuff it brought, the scientists decided that it would be convenient if there was only a singular gender. all humans in this society are born female, and develop a set of male genitals as they reach adulthood. by 18, both are functional reproductive organs.
The society they built is not entirely divorced from their creators, with many laws still in place and history still taught. one of the biggest diffrences however is that they live in an opt-in free use society wherein there is hardly a place in the general public where people arent openly releiving themselves with eachothers help.
pockets of the old humanity still exist in bunkers along with old world technology.
