The Break

"I can't believe you!" Ashleigh shouted. "Lexi Slater? Of all the skanks you fucked Lexi Slater!"

"Look, I said I was sorry," Chris replied apologetically. "We were doing shots, and someone slipped me some Everclear. You know how that affects me."

"I am God damned tired of your excuses!" Ashleigh snarled, wagging her finger in her boyfriend's face. "This time, you were drunk. Last time you were high. Before that, it was... Well, I forget what it was, but I'm sure it was equally idiotic. UHG!!!!"

Chris through his around the pissed off blonde hottie. "I know I've been a bastard..."

"To put it mildly," Ashleigh retorted, pushing the tall athletic man's arm off her shoulder.

"Like I said, I've been a right bastard, but I have an offer," Chris said, not pressing his luck with any more physical contact. "But, I have an offer."

Ashleigh looked at Chris with a sour look that would curdle milk.

Chris continued with trepidation. "So you know work is sending me on that month-long training exercise?"

"Yes, go on," Ashleigh replied, giving Chris look somewhere between anger and disbelief.

"So I'll be stuck in a classroom for ten hours every day out the wilderness at some retreat. I won't have contact with anyone. Why don't you and I take a break?"

"Right, you just want to be able to fuck whatever office slut is stuck in the cabin door," Ashleigh replied with skepticism.

"No, it's just men on this trip. They separate the sexes to avoid such things," Chris answered. "You can do whatever you want during that month, and I'll never ask one question about how you spent your time."

"I'm not making any promises," Ashleigh said. "Honestly, I should go ahead and kick your cheating ass to the curb, but lord help me, part of me does love you. Though it's probably the stupidest part."

"You won't regret it," Chris said, venturing a slight smile.

"I probably will," Ashleigh said. "And if I lose my mind and decide to take you back after a month, so help me God, if you go back and even so much as think of asking me what I did, I will dump you so fast your head will spin!"

"Of course babe," Chris said a bit of happiness and relief in his voice. "Now I better finish packing."
