The Apartment

Chapter 1 by GeraldNash GeraldNash

“ Mr Doe?” you hear a voice enquire and you are dragged from your reverie back into the real world.

“ Oh, sorry!” you say. “ I was just looking at my….acquisition, I cant believe its mine, and please, call me John.”

“ Yes.” responds the lawyer. “ I can believe it would be a shock to discover you’d just inherited an entire floor of an apartment building, a nice building too.”

You both walk towards the building, the lawyer handing you a big bunch of keys and a few thick sheaths of paperwork.

“ Right, these are the front keys Mr Doe…sorry, John. These are for your apartment, these are for the other rooms on your floor, now that your responsible for that floor, you may need access when the tenants aren’t home.” he says. “ And these are for your storage space in the basement………..”

About 20 sets of keys later he is finished, then he goes on to the paperwork…..

“ Most of these forms are simply standard practice, you understand, but if you could please see your way to signing in the relevant areas and initialling here and there, and getting the blue copies back to us within a………..”

Finally he finishes explaining all the paperwork, and can talk about more important things, such as:

“ I believe your apartment is fully furnished, t.v, fridge etc so you should be able to slip right in without to much hassle, plus, this is an area of town with a high percentile of single women, and statistically they are the easiest tenants to have, so good luck!”

You shake hands and he leaves you alone, to try and remember which damn key it was again! Should have paid more attention, you think to yourself.

After a few silly minutes of fumbling you find the needed key and let yourself in, heading up to the 6th floor by a nice elevator, although the music is crap, but this is probably the case in ALL elevators.

“ thanks for the house, Great-Uncle Cecil, I spoke to you only once in my life, but I must have seemed o.k, so thanks!” you think to yourself as the elevator chimes.

The doors open and you are greeted by a wide spacious corridor, leading straight ahead to the elevator at the other side of the building, there are 4 large doors along the corridor, 2 either side, giving the impression that the apartments must be huge if its only 4 to a floor.

You stop at the first door on your left, room 601, and once again go through the motions of trying to find the bloody key! At last you get it and upon entering your jaw drops!

“ Holy shit!” you exclaim. The apartment is excellent, the front door leading into a large open living area, the other side floor to ceiling windows, giving plenty of light and a great view.

You dump the handfuls of keys and paper to go exploring through the rest of the joint, it all proves to be as good as the intro, spacious and clean, you sit down on the massive couch and try out your newly acquired t.v, with a remote that looks like an alien space-dildo, you manage to get the t.v on but your too excited to just sit and stare at it……

You think about your options, you could make a start on all that paperwork or maybe go and introduce your tenants to their new landlord……..
