....

It's begin with a man.

Jenkins worked at a company, not a regular company that people usually talking when it comes to business, it's something different.

He always came home at six, and had the same usual routine every night of his married life. Taking out pleasure.

Every time he got home, walk through the door, drop his lunchbox on the counter, and find his wife wherever she was in the house. Kitchen, laundry room, hallway, it didn't matter. He'd come up behind her and put his hands on her. Her waist. Her hips. Once, her chest, and even her ass while she was holding a pot of boiling water, and she'd nearly dropped it on her own foot.

"Jenkins. I'm cooking."

"I know. I missed you."

"You saw me this morning."

"That was ten hours ago."

His hands were never rough. That was the strange part, the part that made it so hard for Diane to explain to anyone why it bothered her. He wasn't violent about it. He was just always there, always reaching, groping her like it's his own toy.

When she pulled away, he'd wear this look. Not anger. Pretend to be hurt so she would let him touch her again. This pretending, patient look, like she was a toy. This has been going for a long time and she has seen his tricks and his reasons for doing.

She had never liked any of it. Groping her boobs, ass and touch her in every private parts she cover. Whenever she doesn't want to do it, she gave excuses from being tired and other reasons.

It's always the same nights he'd roll toward her, when he can't do it with his wife when she was asleep, he took care of himself right there beside her, because she'd told him once, early on, that she didn't want that kind of closeness. Sometimes he always done it in the bathroom but he recently been doing it near her, jerking off.

There's time she faking her sleep, so she could see what he's been doing silently. She hate it.

She'd grown up in a house where all family members have seems to be, avoiding. Family grows relationship right? But not in this family. Nobody in her family hugged the man really long. Nobody commented on father's shape at the dinner table. And then she'd married a man who grabbed her hip with both hands and groaned like she'd done something for him just by standing at the sink.

"You know what my friends said today?" he asked her one night, the next year of the anniversary marriage, while she folded towels around her after bath.

"No."

"They said I'm a lucky man. Married to you."

She creased a towel into a neat square and set it down. "Why were your friends talking about me?"

"Because I talk about you." He grinned at her from the doorway. "What, is that a crime?"

It turned out he talked about her a lot. More than that, later, she would learn exactly how much he'd said, and to whom, and in what detail, because it was his friends who finally told her.

Two of them, at a barbecue she hadn't attended, urgently need to talk when he's talking with other female workers at her aside and saying with a look of worries, somebody has to say it, your husband got a woman on the east side, has secretly, and he talks about his wife like she doesn't exist except for sexual parts of her.

"Why are you telling me this?" Diane asked.

"We're his friends. But we don't really like how he has been adjusting and turn himself to."

"He has been walking alone with some women for almost every day and secretly disappeared after work. We thought he might gone to other places but we heard rumours he might have done something with them in private alone."

"We just don't want anyone especially you and your son to involved with his schemes. Especially on his bad sides."

"He might be the boss in our company but, we're just had a bad feeling about it."

"Then why not changing your jobs if you know about it?" Diane asked.

"We...need a job. He saw the talent in ours and hired us to work there. The payments are great and he even generously offered us some extra time to rest when we're tired. It seems like he really don't want us to leave his company."

"Do you know what he has the company in the first place?" Diane asked.

"Huh? He didn't tell you? I would say it's more about programming than business. He seems to be working on something to transfer communication. He's a genius after all."

"Yeah I do too but I work more in different sections. I work on the other section but it seems to be like more to...brain stuff and wires."

"Why would the boss wants to experiment on brains?"

"I have no idea."

Everything seems really unusual and fishy. She can't help but had to check. She hated that she had to check, hated that she did found all of the women's names from his work bench. How every of them are from the places near his company. Near outside a restaurant, a bar, a gas station and even a night club.

When she confronted him, he didn't even deny it well. That was almost the worst part. He stood in the kitchen with his arms crossed and said, "So what, you gonna leave? Over that?"

"Over that," she said, "Our years of marriage in my lives, you have been spending with other women. Everything you say about me to your friends, and the way you look at me like I owe you."

"You're my wife."

"Not anymore, I'm done being your toy."

He didn't fight for her. She'd braced for anger, for the version of him from the bad nights, and instead he'd shrugged and said fine, she would take the boy, he would keep the house, and that easy shrug told her everything about how much of her had ever mattered to him.

"You should be ashamed of what you have done. Our son will ashamed that his father is nothing but a pervert."

Kyle was fifteen. He stood in the hallway with a duffel bag he'd packed in secret, and he heard all of it through the kitchen door, and when his mother came out with the divorce papers in her hand, her eyes were dry and her jaw was set, and Kyle had never thought this would be the last time he seen his father.

But his father noticed him. Jenkins looked at Kyle the way he looked at his family, an from the look, top to bottom, and he smiled, and the smile never reached anywhere near his eyes.

"Going with your mom, huh."

Kyle didn't answer. His mother's hand found his shoulder and then grab his hand pulling him over to the door.

"You'll be back," Jenkins said. "Kids always come around when the money gets tight. And it'll get tight."

....

It didn't. Diane threw herself into her work getting every of the papers done, got certified, moved up for years. She would not let that happen to her only son. She found Kyle a good school high school and college and got herself a permanent position with a salary that made her wave off his worries with a laugh.

Kyle in other hands don't want his mother to work alone, so he work part time and found a nice looking job perfect for him. For half a year he has been working and got some good money from it that he could buy a house and afford to go to college.

His mom in other hands got a really good permanent job, 6 times better than him that she able to take care of both of them for probably 20 years. She loves her job so much that she's so experience and quickly becomes the best among them.

She had bought a house, a big one and had a gate and good locks, and Kyle asked, why a gate and good locks, she'd said, "Because they're cheap and your father isn't," and never once said his name in their home again if she could help it.

She was kind. That was the thing people who didn't know her history never understood. She'd come home tired from work and still cook, still sit with him, still ask about his classes with real attention, still ruffle his hair at twenty years old when he let her, which was mostly.

"You're nothing like him," she told him once, out of nowhere, over dishes. "You know that, right? You turn the tap off when you brush your teeth and you ask before you borrow my car. You're nothing like him." And Kyle, who had spent his whole adolescence quietly terrified of finding his father's face in his own mirror, had gone to his room and sat on the bed and felt something in his chest come loose.....
