Second Year

Perspective: Jacob

He pushed me onto the bed and our lips met. “Jacob,” he said, “I can’t believe…” His sentence turned into a moan as I began to pull off his clothes and explore his body.

He didn’t need to finish the sentence. I knew roughly how he felt.

I had moved into my first apartment three months ago, at the beginning of my second year of university. I wasn't the most prepared student, so as is typical I had left the house-hunting to the last minute. The friends I had made during my first year already had their situation sorted, so I was left in the cold. No hard feelings, just bad timing, but the upshot was this: two weeks before my dorm contract was up I was standing outside an old semi-detached house in the July heat, waiting to view it with three people I'd never met.

Aaron arrived first, a stick reaching 6 ft and wearing jeans. He must have been boiling in them, but he clearly had an aesthetic he was working for. We did the traditional British greeting: "Hi." "...er." "Are you here..." "...for the..." "thing." "The thing, yeah. I'm Aaron." He shook my hand and I introduced myself. He studied Management. I didn't really know what that meant, but I smiled and nodded. After all, we were going to be housemates if this went well.

The other two arrived soon after - first Max, all hair and smiles, but clearly the most nervous of any of us, and Thomas shortly after. Thomas was kind of huge - I later learned he played rugby for his college - and while that wasn't really my thing I couldn't help but admire his figure.

Really, none of these guys were that hot. I know that isn't what you want to hear, and we'll get to the porn, but in that first meeting I wasn't impressed. In the end, we got the house because we didn't want to spend the next two weeks looking at whatever dregs the city's letting agents had left. The wallpaper was peeling and the front door was falling apart, but it had to do. I got a basement room, as did Thomas. Max and Aaron got the ground floor rooms. Aaron got the biggest one.
