The cell phone alarm wakes up with a woman's moans. Usually Edward only moves on the third alarm. He is definitely not a morning people. But the shock at the sound - which is obviously not his alarm - frightens him, because he doesn't want neither his sister nor his mother to think anything wrong about him. Sarah can be very irritating and teasing, particularly since she graduated from university and thinks she is an adult. Even though she's only three years older than Edward is, he's also in college - even though he's a freshman - and she still lives with her mother and him.

Mostly, he doesn't want to upset his beloved mother. He knows he's not the perfect child, but he really strives to be as good as possible, after all the mother has done, for so many years, at her own expense, to keep and raise them. It's not easy being a single mom, Edward knows, even though he's never seen his mom complain. Even though he is young, he is already able to see the melaconlia that has grown in her eyes over the years. This was felt throughout her, where the saddened soul made up for the emptiness of feelings with food. The emptier she became, the fuller her body became, taking on the enormous form she took. In fact, the form may not be correct: she is formless. Overburdened by work, both to fill this void, but mainly, the void in the bank account, she has been submitted as a secretary to the excesses and abuses of her boss. So Edward tries to avoid any other kind of irritation to his mother, as he feels that she is getting closer and closer to collapse.

Trying to turn off the alarm, he clumsily drops the phone. Normally, he would be irritated by this, but as soon as he picks it up and hangs up - having seen that no one has come to complain - he lets out a laugh and say to himself: "- Thomas, you will pay me for this!"
