Punk Rot

A tale of rock and roll, mind control and moral decline.

Chapter 1 by Cincinnatus Cincinnatus

Callie watched as Naomi thumbed through records in an aisles of wooden boxes. The two of them shared a deep love of music, but Naomi insisted on the quality sound of vinyls. Callie looked up and down the rows of the flea market. Vendors were selling all kinds of wires, but most had a hippie or grungie vibe to them. Not her normal aesthetic but that was ok.

She was your typical, all American girl. She had long blond hair and was fond of UGG boots, comfy pink sweaters, and Starbucks Pumpkin Spice lattes.

Her style contrasted directly with Naomi, with her short cut hair and alternative style.

Naomi

Looking at the two of them, you would imagine that they didn't have much in common but they both loved music and held a mutual respect and care for each other.

"Hey Miss America, come over here and look at this" called Naomi. She was holding a castle box in her hands.

Callie walked over to and peered at it over her shoulders."Whats the band?" She asked, mildly curious.

"It's this band called Meteorite. I heard that they threw such a big party at a local high that people actually went to prison. I always thought they were just an urban legend, but I guess here is there mix tape." Naomi explained, examining the old box.

It was slightly faded from time but still had some life left in it. Callie picked it up and examined it herself. The cover art was a simple picture of the band with all their eyes greened out, looking like some kind of dirty, punk rock group.

"Are you going to get it?" Callie asked, turning it over to open it up.

"I don't usually buy things here, I just like to look." She replied with a light chuckle. "But you should get it, at best it would be an interesting conversation piece."

"I don't know, I'm not really into that kind of music." She said, turning it over in her hands. She opened up the case and to examine the cassette. Pulling it out, a small green rock the size of a guitar pick fell out of the case.

She picked out it up and examined it in the sun. She admired it as it glistened in the sun. This is brilliant. She would keep this. She needed to keep this. It was precious it was her. Subconsciously she slipped it into her pocket next to her phone. Nobody noticed as a green glow receded from her normally blue eyes.

She returned the tape to the seller and her and Naomi went about their business. The whole time, a slight green glow emanated from her pocket.

Where does Callie take the rock?
