Off-Campus House

Off-Campus House

A coming-of-age story set in a rental house off the university campus

Chapter 1 by adventuremail adventuremail

Wendell Sato unconsciously bobbed his leg up and down from the backseat of his friend’s car. The rolling scene outside the car window gave him an uncanny feeling — it was familiar but he didn’t feel close to it. Wendell sighed and resigned himself to tapping his fingers on the window to the beat of the song.

The young man was nervous, yet somewhat excited. Being a third-year, he could finally live somewhere other than those dreadful dorms. The outside of those buildings may have looked like a fancy-ass apartment but, in reality, the rooms were like concrete prison cells laced with godforsaken highlighter colors. He wasn’t going to have his own room but at least he would be staying with his closest friends…well, at least two of them were his closest friends; he didn’t know the other six very well. Wendell was the kind of person that could be funny and charming if it’s coaxed out of them, so he was understandably nervous about living with people that he didn’t really know.

“Will you stop the fucking shaking? I can feel it from the driver’s seat,” exclaimed the owner and driver of the car, Amber. Despite only meeting in high school, Amber Wong quickly became one of Wendell’s best friends.

“What are you talking about? I can’t feel a thing, he’s fine,” retorted Ezra. Ezra Williams was Wendell’s oldest friend and, just like Amber, fiercely protective of him. While both liked to push Wendell out of his shell, Ezra was more conservative about making Wendell do things he didn’t want to.

“All right, Mom, I’ll stop,” remarked Wendell.

“Good boy,” said Amber wryly. Amber saw Wendell’s face react to her comment in the rear view mirror. “Ah, there’s the cringe I’m looking for!”

“Are we there yet, Mom,” Wendell fired back.

“Yeah are we there yet,” replied Ezra, joining in on the light ribbing. The two repeated their questioning a couple more times, trying to rile Amber up a bit.

“Will you two stop it? You’re gonna give your mother a heart attack. God, two kids by twenty-one and they both just go on and on with their nagging,” said Amber as she dramatically shook her head in fake disappointment.

“Well, he we are, our home for the next eight or so months,” said Ezra as the house pulled into view for the passengers of the car.

“Oh, James is waiting for us in the garage,” announced Amber.

Once Amber pulled the car into the garage, James hugged her and helped the trio move their belongings into the house. He figured that they were tired from their drive so introductions could be saved for later once everyone got settled in.

Author's Note: This story will not only mark the first time I have written erotica but also the first story of the size I intend it to be. Additionally, I will be writing from the perspective of many characters who I do not share life experiences with. However, I will do my best to make this story respectful and fun. I am calling on all readers of this story to kindly leave a comment about any constructive feedback or elements of the story that you responded well to so I can improve the story moving forward.
