The Six Housemates

After bringing all their stuff into the house, the issue of room arrangements was quickly settled. The couple of the group (Olivia & James) were to be set up in the Bedroom #1 while the other two bedrooms would be split amongst the sexes. This meant Amber and Elizabeth were in Bedroom #2 while Wendell and Ezra got Bedroom #3. Given that there were only two bathrooms, it was decided that the men would take Bathroom #1 while the women would be in Bathroom #2.

Wendell collapsed onto his sheet-less bed and stared at the giant fan on the ceiling. Hopefully I get along with all of these people or else this is going to be a miserable experience, groaned Wendell internally.

Suddenly, a hand knocked on the open door — it was James. “You two want to meet the rest of the crew,” asked James.

“Sure,” replied Ezra. Pulling Wendell up from the bed, he began to push Wendell towards the door frame. “C’mon, buddy, you’re going to go first. I know you, if I don’t push you out of this door then you’re never going to leave this room.”

The pair joined the rest of the group on the couch and various chairs and beanbags.

“Amber, did you want to start things off or should I,” asked James. Amber leaped off her beanbag to address the other seven. “I think all of you know my name but some know me better than others so I’ll introduce myself again. My name is Amber and I’m from Hawaii. These two boy are also from Hawaii. That’s Ezra and Wendell,” said Amber as she gestured towards the boys.

“This project before us is an ‘Amber-James’ joint-venture. Now, James, here, is dating the lovely Olivia, who is close friends with Elizabeth. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe I recall that these two are with me,” said Amber as she sarcastically gestured towards the boys again. “Shall we have everyone do a quick introduction before we have them mingle around,” inquired James.

“That’s a great idea! Shall we start with you James?”

“As I’m sure you know by now, I’m James, James Washington. I am a fourth-year and I’m majoring in political science. My hometown is Houston, Texas,” said James as he signaled Amber to go next.

“I’m Amber Wong and I am a third-year business major. As I said before, I’m from Hawaii. How about we go with this guy next,” suggested Amber as she pointed towards Wendell. “C’mon don’t be shy, these are your new friends. Plus you get to choose the next person. Stand up!”

Wendell stood up from his post on the bar stool to give Amber a strong stink eye. “Fine. My name is Wendell Sato. I am a third-year English major and I’m also from Hawaii. How’s that,” Wendell pointedly asked Amber.

“Don’t take that tone with me, mister! Because of that, you must now share your entire life story with the rest of the class,” returned Amber.

“Well, it all started when I was born at a hospital near Manoa going into the early hours of the morning. The world was very bright and the doctors said that I”—Amber cut him off by pushing him back down into his seat—“Okay, who’s next,” asked Amber as she continued to try and silence Wendell.

“I choose Ezra,” said Wendell as he gestured towards his friend.

“No, you already know him; you have to choose somebody else,” said Amber in a direct tone.

“But you chose me. Don’t you know me,” replied Wendell.

“Apparently I didn’t know how much of a pain the ass you were,” said Amber.

“But you already knew that too—“

“Who’s next,” asked Amber, again.

“How about Elizabeth,” suggested Wendell.

“Hi, I’m Elizabeth Roberts; some people call me Lizzie. I’m from New York and I am a third-year English major,” said Elizabeth.

“Oh, you’re an English major too! Maybe you two can get to know each other more after this,” said Amber as she pointed between Elizabeth and Wendell.

“Okay! I, um, choose Olivia to go next,” announced Elizabeth.

“Hi, my name is Olivia Marquez and I’m best friends with Lizzie over there. As some of you may also know, I am dating James here. This will be my third year at the university and I’m majoring in computer science,” said Olivia. "Ezra."

“Hello, my name is Ezra Williams. I am also from Hawaii and I’m a third-year psychology major.”

After further conversation amongst the group, they decided to get a quick dinner and get to bed as many were tired from the move.
