Occurrence

To live as many.

Chapter 1 by abomymity abomymity

Occurences happen in this world. They cause things like transformations, age changes, and other things. Since they began in the seventies, fifty years later, the government has agencies set up to deal with the changes they cause in people and the various types of things that can occur. The most developed countries generally have it solved, but they can cause a mess in countries with less infrastructure.

There are a few rules for how/when they can occur, or rather the liklihood of it happening.

Things can go amazingly well, or incredibly wrong for those affected.

While superhero/comicbook levels of superpowers aren't a thing, they can't grant non-naturally obtainable features.

Most of it is simply luck, from getting an occurence to happen to what types of changes are had.

However, during an occurence, there is something of a skillcheck that cannot be truly prepared for because it requires on the fly understanding of what is happening. This doesn't guaruntee anything, but it does help foster a positive outcome, and makes sought after benefits significantly more likely.

Brisc was getting out of his car when the occurence started forming. He'd just arrived at his work, usually he was earlier but some unlucky traffic lights and a stalled vehicle had stalled him. He quickly dived into his backseat retrieving a small token, a little metal emblem. It would help with the occurence, one of the many little habits he'd formed for this chance. Looking around, a coworker was also arriving, but he waved them off. He didn't know if they'd want to chance an occurence, but he made sure they knew he was going to, incase they thought he'd be dodging it in his car. Some awful things could happen if two people were in an occurence, often seen when it appeared in a crowded area (which generally caused a crowd crush/stampede).

He walked a little ways into the parking lot. It was too late now to be able to dodge this, if he attempted to run now, it would greatly increase the chance of something negative happening. He took a deep breath and let himself be calm as the occurence began.

People considered Brisc intelligent, some going so far to call him a genius. It wasn't strictly true though, at least not in the sense they thought. He knew quite well what he was good at, and all the aspects he was not. Most things he was mediocre or perhaps above average but nothing too grand. He was amazing at one thing though, and the way it affected everything else made a veneer of appearing good at those things too. His personal 'superpower' was the ability to understand. He could quickly see, break down, and explain in a simple manner most anything that came before him. It had taken him awhile to boil it down, to finally have an explanation as to why he failed at things he should be 'good' at. But from all his research, this fit in perfectly for what the skillcheck in an occurence was, this was his opportunity to utilize the one thing he was great at.

All light winked out. Nobody could ever explain what happened while they were in an occurence, let alone what they did during it, except for vague feelings. Brisc was worried about if there was nothing he could do but he sensed things. And from there he reacted, he could understand something and reacted on it. Again and again something happened, and he did something, yet he could not tell what anything was. But he knew it felt like a long time had passed when he finally couldn't keep up, started to misunderstand. He didn't have the mental bandwidth to realize whether or not he'd been there for a short time, or a long time. Then he sensed he failed. And succeeded. He felt thoughts flowing through his mind, his thoughts being thunk for something else. Then he felt something sending him a feeling of content. Before he could fathom what that even meant, his sense of self and reality (as already melted as it was) suddenly contorted, then contorted again, twisting with an elegance that kept him sane. As it finished, he tried to take a mental breath but his mind splintered, his body splintered, his thoughts like compoud eyes of himself. He tried to scream but could not in this realm. Finally blissful blackness shunted itself through his awareness.

An instant later he opened his eyes. All of them. No longer was he simply gazing out of a single pair of eyes, but many of them. He didn't have an exact count, in the same way you don't have an exact count of fingers and toes without already knowing them. The multiple views didn't bother him to his surprised. Still, not wanting to tempt anything, he started closing them one at a time until he only had one view left, and he looked around.

Temporary barriers had been set up around, he saw a couple people setting up curtains, blocking the view of onlookers. He saw other bodies on the ground, he sat up, accidentally sitting up with a few bodies and not just his viewpoint. So many things vied for first spot in his mind as he took everything in. All the bodies he saw were girls, and with that thought, he could feel the breasts hanging on his chest of his current point of view. Glancing down he confirmed what he felt. Second thing was that he was cold. It was mid november, and the third thing is that he was entirely naked, across all his bodies. He started shivering across all his bodies, starting to sit them all up to get off the cold uncomfortable asphalt.

The occurence! Brisc remembered why all this was happening. He'd have to reserve judgement until certain things were checked, but it looked like he'd hit a massive jackpot, multi-bodying was uncommon but he'd never heard of gaining so many bodies. It was well over ten, maybe even over twenty. He didn't have it in him to immediately count though, the cold was really getting to him. It wasn't freezing, but it close and it was windy, and he was completely naked across so many bodies. The thought that bodyheat was a good defense against cold came to him, and though normally he might've been more cirumspect, he started drifting his bodies together to get skin contact to keep warm.

He'd occasionally open the eyes of a body to get bearing, but kept them mostly closed except for one pair. As he started his migration, one of the two people setting up the fabric barrier, Brisc now realized likely because of the nakedness of his bodies, peeled off to talk to him.

Brisc hailed him down from his current viewport, not wanting to attempt switching focus, if that was even a thing. The worker walked towards him, giving greeting.

"Hey there, welcome back to the world." He gave a canned greeting, then grimaced. "Let's skip that for now." He sighed, then pulled off his light jacket and handed it to Brisc who gratefully accepted, quickly covering himself, saying thanks. "Just to confirm, is that all you?." The worker gestured to the gaggle of bodies, respectfully not looking towards the naked bodies. Brisc croaked out a shivering yes. "Ok then, so this is a big change for you, even for us this is pretty crazy. Usually we have things more covered but we weren't expecting so many of you. First off, lets get most of you out of the cold." He pointed towards a van that was in the enclosure.

"Ok." Brisc said through chattering teeth. "I really didn't expect to end up naked after this." He griped a bit.

The worker chuckled a bit, "It isn't something that really gets advertised, it happens fairly rarely anyways. We have some extra clothes, but not enough to cover all of you." He opened the back of the van that was marked as the worker's agencies vehicle. Brisc started a congo line from the gaggle he was to the vehicle.

As Brisc climbed in, the worker spoke again, "My names Nick Merna, Occurrence Management and Research Agency specialist. We are here to assist in getting your official identities sorted. Additionally, we offer some free tests to determine attributes you may have, and offer a paid services for occurrence therapy and acclimization to the new you." Nick had the canned smile back on his face giving his usual speel. As he finished, the other worker had finished setting up the barriers and walked up. She looked early thirties, with brown hair in a ponytail, and a heavy jacket.

"Hi there! I'm Kiera! First three of those therapy sessions are free by the way, I would reccommend using them. Did you get a count?" She glanced at Nick.

"I got twenty-three." Brisc said, still hugging Nick's much lighter jacket. The rest of his bodies had managed to fit into the van, it was tight, the last few double or triple sitting in the front seats.

"Twenty four." Nick replied. "Did you count yourself?" He asked, paused then frowned, "I mean..."

"Oh yeah, twenty-four, I gotch'u." Brisc replied. Kiera laughed to the side, elbowing Nick a bit, teasing.

"That's got to be near or beyond the record." Kiera said delighted. "Definitely more than anything we've seen at our office."

Brisc is still standing outside with a body with nothing but a light jacket shivering like crazy. "My names Brisc, good to meet you both." He tries to ignore the cold, but it's obvious to Kiera and Nick.

"Oh you poor thing, here." Kiera hands over Brisc's original clothing he'd been wearing. He quickly started putting it on, the form fitting quite a bit differently than it did originally. Kiera smacked Nick on the arm, causing him to turn around.

After changing, Brisc gives Nick back his coat, letting him know he had one in his car. Kiera pulls Brisc towards his car, exiting the enclosure after telling Nick to call it in and get another team down. They sit in Brisc's car, letting it warm up and blow hot air.

"You were within the occurrence for quite awhile," Kiera says. "Do you remember anything?"

"Not really, just vague feelings, confusion. Sort of like waking from a dream, but a stronger feeling yet more confusing than a vivid dream as I could never really pin anything down, I think it lasted a long time, then I felt something being content or satisfied or grateful or some mix of those." Brisc replied, obviously trying to remember but unable to do so.

"I can confirm you were there for a long time, this is close to our headquarters, but that we arrived here while you were still in in the occurrence really doesn't happen. Might be another record. Anyways, are you comfortable?" Kiera asked suddenly following her pondering.

"Umm, it's tight but I'm not clausterpho..." Brisc paused, momentarily confused as to why he was feeling that way. "I'm... comfortable here, but not very in the Van." Brisc spoke slowly, deliberately, not wanting to get anything confused.

"Good." Kiera said smiling. "I saw the line you had moving to the van. You can trust yourself in handling your various bodies, it comes naturally to people that become multi-bodied. You don't need to yourself, but if you wanted to keep multiple views open, or simultaneously move multiple bodies, you'll find little trouble in doing so."

"Oh. Ok, I'll try, at least once the rest of... me isn't packed like sardines." Brisc said lowering his eyes, feeling admonished.

Kiera lifted her head by the chin. "No need to feel bad about it, everyone tries the same thing at first. It just doesn't fit in our heads that it's possible, I just know you'll be fine because I've dealt with plenty of other multi-bodied people before you."

They sat in the car with Kiera giving tips about being multi-bodied, a girl, and various services the Occurence agency offered. A second Van drove up soon, this time bringing enough clothing (and the right guestimated sizes) for Brisc. He had to take emergency leave from his work (it was federally protected to be able to take unpaid leave, but Brisc knew he'd need the paycheck.) After all his bodies were dressed and seated between the two vans, they drove off to the Agency. During the ride, Kiera chatted with Brisc while encouraging him to chat with the other person in the van and the other two in the other van. He tried, and to his surprise he was mostly able to keep the conversations going, listening or speaking between the four at the same time. There was some accidental crossover, but no more than someone generally mispeaking. He learned the other two workers that came, Melissa and Irena, a couple of early-mid twenties girls weren't actually a full team but had been selected to come onto the mission since it already had a lead, Kiera, and while not explicitly said, were the same sex and age as what Brisc's bodies appeared to be.

After arriving at their HQ, Melissa and Irena split off to back what they had been doing. Brisc, Kiera, and Nick move onto processing. Here Brisc answered a few basic questions, and sat for a few of the tests. Kiera joked that the tests were way faster than normal since they were done parallel instead of in sequence, gaining a smidge of a smile from Brisc across a few bodies. But another topic was occupying his mind, something Kiera and hinted at but not explicitly mentioned outloud yet, but a decision would need to be made soon.

They arrive at the identity management section. Here was where they would enter into appropiate systems that all twentyfour of Brisc's bodies were in fact a single person and were all Brisc. The first question that needed to be filled out though, name. Brisc actually already knew what he was going to put. He wouldn't say this outcome was what he was hoping for, but in reality he wasn't surprised this is what it was. He'd never say he'd been born the wrong gender, nor would he have considered himself trans. In a redo such as this one though, being a girl this time around was not something he minded. He'd known that if given a choice, this is what he'd choose, even while not experiencing gender disphoria. He wrote down his chosen name, 'Bri Emily Abyss'. Then under gender, he wrote chose female.

But she wasn't exactly let through identity management that easily. While she'd had a name prechosen, what she didn't have was twenty-three additional names pre-chosen, as it was authorized for each of her bodies to utilize a different middle name. She could forgo such, but it wasn't something she wanted to. However, it also gave her the first chance to look, to really see each of her bodies. So far, she'd unconciously avoided focusing on them from her other bodies, letting her gazes and glances slide off to something else everytime. But now, she was choosing a name for each body and she wanted to really see the body and match a name towards it. It didn't take her nearly as much time as she thought it would though, she needed to think of twenty three new middle names, but she could do them all in parallel, as she could hold twentyfour thought processes at the same time. (But dear reader, neither I as the author, nor you as the reader, or even this very format is capable of handling such, it must be done in sequence for the plebs that we are.)

Bri Emily, first off, was a nordic blonde with fair skin, ice blue eyes, and no blemishes. She'd already been measured and weighed, all her bodies were tall for girls, all coming in between 5'9.5 and 5'11.25. The next, a strawberry blonde she named Dawn. Then a natural red-head ginger with green eyes and lightly freckled got named Erin. Then, this almost made him feel guilty over the stereotype, her tallest body, a athletic fit black girl, looking like Nyla Lueeth, she named Stella. Brunette called Christine. And so on. She was mostly white, and there was a similarity between her bodies, even the ones with different ethnicities. And she was, even being modest, attractive across the board, easy tens. On a few computers, she finished entering her chosen names per body, alongside fingerprinting and photos taken. She was smiling more now, there was a positive feedback loop with herself, as Bri was finally getting excited over her new condition, and it was starting to feel real as she was handed her ID's.

As she finished, Kiera walked back up. "Oh, good timing! I was expecting you to take longer, usually people take the most time here. But hey, you're just in time for your results from the tests, follow me."

"Oh cool, I chose a new name, I go by Bri now." She said excitedly.

"I like it." Kiera replied, giving a genuine smile at Bri's newfound enthusiasm. She hoped it would survive the test results, they weren't necessarily common, but there were 'attributes' that could be given that would be a nightmare to deal with, part of the reason some people avoided occurrences entirely. Kiera hated whenever one of hers got dealt those hands, especially when everything before hand seems amazing.

"I even chose a name for each body, this ones... umm." Bri paused, she'd chosen names in the moment, but she wasn't entirely used to differentiating each body yet but even identifying who she was talking with didn't help as she'd momentarily forgotten which name she'd given this body. But, to the rescue, she pulled from her pocket her newly minted ID, "Arielle!" This body had long flowing golden blonde hair, voluptously so. As they walked over, Bri focused on not being in complete lockstep with herself. It had been pretty difficult at first, but she was getting better at not having all her bodies eerily move in the same exact way. She might not have cared but it ended up annoying herself too, plus there was always the benefit at not being dinged as a multi-body occupant.

They arrived at their destination, instantly filling up the waiting area. Kiera talked with the receptionist while Bri waited. Shortly after a doctor emerged from a door. He muttered barely audible, "Christ, they told me but to see it." The louder, "Kiera, good to see you. Bri, nice to meet you, I'm Doctor Keith Richland. If you could follow with one please." Bri walked forwards with her closest body. They entered a room immediately to the left where Dr. Richland quickly set up a view screen to go over results with Bri.

"To avoid suspense, it's all good news." He started, "I'll explain each thing, but there is no need for any worry, none of the negatives were found." Bri smiled weakly at that, in truth, she'd forgotten all about it. She knew the dangers of what could have happened though, she'd well researched the occurrence, as had most kids at some point.

In the waiting room, Bri was mostly sitting down in the available seats, of which there weren't enough. Kiera had chosen to stand. Bri relayed what Dr. Richlands said about it being all good news. Kiera grabbed and hugged the two closest Bri suprising her.

"Oh thank god." Kiera exhaled. "I was worried. You must have been worse too." Kiera gave one final squeeze before releasing the hug.

Bri let out a few nervous chuckles. "I, uhh, may have forgotten about it." She put on a smile.

Kiera glared for half a second, before letting out a laugh. "All wells then! Far better than being a anxious wreck that I've seen, people walking in as if Keith was going to proclaim their sentence. Though I guess for a few, he did." Her smile slipped as some memories came to her. "But nevermind that! Keith always has the most boring explanations for attributes, I'll tell you them straight."

Shortly put, Her periods would occur but be extremely on the light end, and not last very long. the body was athletic and flexible, more so than she'd ever been in her life. It showed that her complexion would remain clear, not gain any blemishes or pimples. She'd naturally remain cleaner though not to the point she could entirely forgo showers. Her hair would naturally be much stronger, silky, manageable, tangle free, full, lustrous, and knot free without much work. She'd not been looking forward to having to deal with the amount of work long hair entailed (that she knew of secondhand) but with that, much of the work necessary behind taking care of long hair was dealt with with the attribute. The athleticism and flexibility was actually helped along and resulting from an attribute that she wouldn't atrophy in those aspects, and that she was stronger than her physical muscles actually were. Not to the point she was superhuman or even stronger than buffer guys than him. She was also a supersleeper now, or rather, part of the small group of people that only needed around 5 hours of sleep each night to obtain a full night of rest. She also tired less when doing physical activity, endured greater resistance to being uncomfortable in a range of temperatures. She would need to utilize the toilet less often too. After all that, the doctor dropped the largest bomb of all.

"Congratulations," Dr. Richland said in monotone. "You have the unaging attribute." He broke a small grin, his professional demeanor cracking for the first time. He accepted the hug Bri gave him.

Kiera found herself buried under a bunch of Bri. They'd been getting more and more excited with each attribute, then when Richland had given the news, Bri relayed 'unaging attribute' which Kiera near shrieked 'Immortality!' in excitement, and Bri rushed to hug her with most of her bodies. Bri was still untangling herself when she rejoined her otherselves with Dr. Richland.

"I got a bit overexcited." She muttered to Richland, slightly embarassed at the gagglefuck.

"I think in this instance, that is perfectly understandable." He replied succinctly. Louder, "Kiera dear, do you need assistence catching your breath?"

"Stuff it Keith." Kiera bit back. "I know you're just as happy as I am, I bet you even cracked a smile."

"Anything that happens in the room is doctor-patient confidentiality." He shot back.

Bri looked back and forth at them, forgetting she could simply observe both at the same time. "Wait, are you two..."

Dr. Richland cut her off, "I'm a happily married man!"

Kiera scoffed, "Yes he is." She glared at him, "To me that is!"

The receptionist made an appearence, salvaging the remaining professiolism of the wayward couple. "Miss Bri, congratulations." She turned to Dr. Richland. "Doctor, the next test results are available and waiting your review at your client."

"Yes, thank you. Back to work then. Again, congratulations Bri." This time he said it with emotion and sincerely.

Now finished with the free / mandatory portion of the programme, Bri asked Kiera what was next. She said she didn't think she could afford any pay options right then, since she now needed to support 24 selves, up from 1 on the same salary, which wasn't the worst but would be stretched incredibly thin. Well, not counting the fact the he'd be stuffing all of them into the small apartment he lived in. Generally speaking, he could get a ride to wherever he wanted to be dropped off, but Kiera was going to bend the rules a bit, and allow him to have three rides, two to his house, and the other to his place of work.
