Mystical Tree Fort

Hank enjoyed his time visiting his in-laws' cabin located on the edge of a large national forest and nature preserve. He had many fond memories here with his wife before her sudden illness and passing. Chloe had left him a widower at the age of 30 and he struggled with getting back in the dating scene. Hank stayed close with his in-laws and they let him have access to the cabin and he even had keys to the place. He mainly went there when he needed a place to clear his mind and get away from the city.

Hank's car pulled up the long gravel drive way. The tall mature trees' leaves were deep shades of orange, red, and yellow lining either side of the driveway. As he approached, Hank noticed a white mini van with out of state plates parked in front of the rustic little cabin in the woods. Hank silently cursed as he recalled letting Chloe's parents know he was going to be there for the week. Chloe's parents shared the place with her aunts, uncle, and their kids, her cousins. They typically had a rotating schedule where certain families got first pick and Hank always checked in before the eight hour drive out here.

Hank exited his vehicle and walked up the wide stairs to the front covered patio. The rich smells of autumn permeated his senses as he walked past the wear worn wooden rocking chairs on his way to the rustic front door. He wiped his feet on the welcome mat and knocked on the door. No answer. He knocked again and looked into the front window.

Hank saw two large suit cases near the entry and couple of kid's backpacks on the old leather sofa. Who could this be he wondered. After no answer on the second knock he decided to let himself in.

Hank entered cabin and was flooded with past memories of long weekends spent here with Chloe. As he closed the door behind him he heard a feminine voice loudly exclaim, "I told you two that mom needs some quiet time and to go play outside for a while!"

*Note to reader-this is going to start out slow but hopefully you will stick with it. My hope is this will be a little more fulfilling than a quick slap and grab story. (Not that anything is wrong with those-sometimes you NEED a snack other times you want a meal). I intend to open up a later section for other users to jump in. I am hoping to take my time and really develop the story and main characters prior to delivering the dessert.
