My Sister's Feet

I hated my sister and she hated me. It has always been that way. Growing up Naomi resented getting stuck with me and I wasn’t any happy having her as a babysitter. When we were very young fights always started with us trading insults but they ended with biting, scratching, and slapping. Thankfully, we grew out of that by the time we were in high school together, but we never got along.

So why was I moving into her apartment in the city? Well you can thank our mom and dad for that. I had just graduated from a top university, but I had lived at home the whole time. My parents were happy to see me move out, but didn’t think I should get my own place right way. Naomi hated the idea at first, but two of her roommates had just moved out and she was . Dad offered to cover a third of the rent if she let me move in for six months and with me paying the other third she came around to the idea.

I wasn’t crazy about it, but I figured my new job at a big consulting firm would keep me busy enough that I would barely be at home. It would suck, but the salary was insane and well worth the tradeoff. In less than a year I would be out of her hair, maybe even saving enough to put a down payment on my own condo if I hit my bonuses..

“Hey loser! Stop being lazy.” Naomi’s voice interrupted my daydreaming.

“Are you going to finish unpacking or what? I’m not going to help you.”

“Wow thanks sis! But I can handle it on my own.” I laid on as much sarcasm as I could.

“Hey, it’s time to grow up little man, don’t expect me to be taking care of you while you are here.” I guess this was her idea of laying down some ground rules, but I wasn’t going to stand for it.

“Can I expect you to be a massive bitch the whole time?” That would shut her up.

She opened her mouth as if to respond, but then sneered at me and turned heel to walk away.

I couldn’t help but smile. Looks like I take the first round.
