Milk Barn Hypnos
after trying to save his Farmer Cook discover he has made a unique Milk
One sip, and you were hooked.
Farmer Charlie Cook was a dairy farmer by trade, but science had always been his real passion. Long before he inherited Cook’s Family Dairy, Charlie had studied genetics, animal behaviour and agricultural medicine. While other farmers treated sick cattle with harsh chemicals or sent injured animals away, Charlie developed gentler methods.
His treatments repaired damaged muscles, strengthened weak bones and protected his cattle from disease without causing them pain. His cows lived longer, produced more milk and seemed almost unnaturally calm.
They were special cattle.
Charlie simply never explained how special.
The first unusual batch of milk came from a large silver-grey cow he called Matilda. She had been born with a damaged nervous system and had not been expected to survive her first week. Charlie worked through three nights to save her, using a formula of proteins, engineered bacteria and experimental hormones.
Matilda recovered.
Within a year, she was the healthiest cow in the herd.
Her milk was sweet, creamy and strangely comforting. Charlie noticed that anyone who drank it became relaxed within seconds. Their worries faded. Their breathing slowed. Even angry people became agreeable.
At first, Charlie believed he had created a natural treatment for anxiety.
Then people began coming back.
A neighbour who had sampled a glass returned the next morning asking to buy a bottle. A delivery driver who had tasted it refused to leave until Charlie promised him another cup. Visitors began claiming that ordinary milk tasted sour and empty by comparison.
They did not merely enjoy Charlie’s milk.
They needed it.
Charlie converted his old red barn into a small roadside shop called The Milk Barn. He sold fresh bottles, milkshakes, cream and homemade ice cream. The place became popular almost overnight.
Customers arrived before sunrise and waited beside the road for Charlie to open the doors. Some travelled for hours. Others bought entire crates, terrified that the supply might run out.
After drinking it, they became cheerful and cooperative. They praised Charlie’s farm. They defended him whenever someone questioned his methods. A few even volunteered to work without pay, claiming that being close to the cattle made them feel safe.
Charlie told himself that nobody was being harmed.
The milk made people happy.
Was happiness really so terrible?
Yet each new batch appeared stronger than the last. Customers no longer needed a full glass. A spoonful was enough to leave them staring dreamily toward the barn, waiting for Charlie’s next instruction.
One evening, Charlie stood in his laboratory beneath the farmhouse and watched a drop of silver-white milk move through a glass tube.
Behind him, dozens of monitors displayed the heart rates and brain activity of his regular customers.
Every pattern was nearly identical.
Calm.
Focused.
Obedient.
Charlie adjusted his glasses and entered a new observation into his computer.
