Living with the Consequences

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 by sharad sharad

Waking up to the sound of an explosion just outside my window, I immediately feel my heart thumping in my chest. Looking around, the darkness in the room is expected as I made it a point to have curtains that seem to consume any light that hits it.

Being somewhat educated on the subject I understand that the thumping in my chest is a result of my brain perceiving a fight or flight scenario however, a loud explosion with a lack of context should not cause such a severe reaction. Regardless, being as inquisitive as I am and with the help of the adrenaline circulating through my body, I rush to the window, pulling the curtains aside with too much than intended.

There I see what I could only describe as true chaos. Initially looking at the crossroad just below my apartment I see someone's car crashed into an electricity pole, this most likely caused the pole to fall onto the car with the wires sending sparks everywhere. Onlookers capturing video clips with their phones instead of contacting ESUs and the passengers appear to be from my point of view. As I was picking up my smartphone from the nightstand to call 911, my eyes landed on what most likely caused the accident.

A monstrous crack in the road, the fissure looked wide enough for a grown man to fall through. As I stood there motionless looking at the fissure, I noticed some people next to the newly formed trench but they are not looking down the hole as I expected them to; no, they are looking up. Why?

As I looked up I yet again found myself unable to move. Any normal person that was presented with this site would be motionless. Unsure as to what I should be thinking right now, I instead decide to describe what I see in an effort to draw some sort of conclusion.

Red, the night sky is a crimson red, the moon is green and there seems to be a purple crack in the sky? I know I'm not dreaming, have I been ? or is there a logical explanation for this?

Suddenly there was a pulling sensation from within my body, it felt very unsettling and I started to panic. Unlocking my phone I immediately try to call for help however it was in vain because as soon as I hit the call button.....
