Chapter 1: The Ordinary Life Shattered (Rough Draft v1)

Josh was the epitome of the ordinary working man. Living in a world of extraordinary superheroes, Josh was just an average office employee. Josh worked as a manager at Genetix, a leading biotechnology company with groundbreaking technologies. His boss, the eccentric billionaire Dr. Victoria Stalwart, was an enigma to most employees. She always seemed to be toiling away on mysterious projects that nobody knew much about. Nobody, least of all the board of directors, cared as she had carried the company on the back of projects born out of this secretive development style.

Today started out extra average or as he liked to say 'very medium', A bunch of issues and solutions, all incredibly mediocre. Josh had woke up late but had been able to get to work on time. The rest of the day went with that same rhythm, for every set back there was a small victory and vis versa. Spilled his coffee on himself, coworker got him a new one, and was able to borrow a spare shirt for his presentation, then top button ripped but Susan from accounting had a small sewing kit in her purse. More problems than normal but all boring. That seemed to be Josh's lot in life.

'I guess it was immature that I was hoping that today's motivation quote would be true, 'May you live in interesting times' indeed.

Those thoughts went through Josh's head right before his office life was turned upside down. During a seemingly regular board meeting, a colossal battle erupted. Superheroes, known as the Guardians of Solace, stormed the Genetix building. They claimed Dr. Stalwart was secretly the villainous mastermind, BioWar, who had been causing chaos around the Country. BioWar would not go quitely it would seem, the heros seemed surpried, expecting a easy capture as one hero, 'Short-out' apparently, announced 'We are broadcasting a wavelength that renders all your tech useless, please surrender.'

BioWar laughed as she began to glow 'I am well aware of your magic bullet, such an odd power expression, It really did catch a lot of us tech centric types by surprise, but I'm not some cut-rate Garage Tinkerer, did you forget my Threat classification?! Your own logs have me as the only non-powered A+ -Rank threat! Every time you used that power over the last year? I studied it! I've updated most of my tech to no longer have that weakness!'. As superpowers clashed with high-tech gadgets, the office turned into a war zone.

Suddenly, Josh was thrown across the room by a forceful blast. Crashing through a wall, tumbling into a secret lab. Bloodied and barely conscious, Josh could hear a distant voice asking Josh what he desired. With Josh's final breath before blacking out, Josh whispered, "I want to live..."

Story on hiatus pending a rewrite and integration into a video game I'm working on.
