Sweat trickles down your forehead. The thought of your entire future and dreams depending on the contents of the cold piece of paper in between your hands is almost enough to make you not want to look at it.

Let me run you guys through the process behind this. The year is 2420 and humans are now capable of doing extraordinary things. After the gruesome, yet quick, war of 2070 countless died bringing humanity from the billions, down to hundreds of millions.

The radiation followed by the atomic war caused the of one generation, but the salvation of the next hundred. The radiation from the war was left in the air, water, surviving animals and made its way into the last surviving members of humanity.

Due to a mutation that occurred when the radiation mixed with the process of child birth, the first super powered human was born in 2180 and soon after him followed many more super powered children. As time went on, babies born with super powers kept increasing and now, 2 out of 3 people in the world have some sort of power.

Powers branch into different categories from form types to powered types. You were born with overwhelming strength, a power that everyone wished for but is a rare form of the powered category, but it came at a cost for you. The shock from each punch is almost too much for any normal body to withstand, including yours, so your power is only controllable at around 5% strength at your current state.

Through intensive training from when you were a kid, you can push it to 10% but going to this level will leave you out of commission for a few days so you created alternative uses for your power. 5% is all you need for accelerated speed and high jumps, causing some to confuse your power for speed and flight, but you can only do this for a little bit of time.

Due to all the super powered humans, heavy regulations are placed on the use of said powers. In fact, in almost all cases, the use of powers are banned unless you have a heroes license but these aren’t easy to come by.

The application process takes a year in which they estimate your usefulness, or more importantly, your powers usefulness in upholding the law and keeping the peace. Your power is almost useless for everything other then lifting so you aren’t too sure if you’ll make it into the hero section.

Even if your application is put through, your power is put into a section, there are 5 sections in particular; hero, support, medic, spy and law enforcement assistance. Each has their own regulations but the hero section is the section for countless people with incredible powers. To enter any of these you are allowed to apply from 17 and enter at 18 (just like what you are doing. You are 18 years old.)

Regardless of how many heroes there are, there are the same number of villains in the world causing a psychic requirement that allows you to enter the hero course. This is why you are completely terrified about the contents of the slip.
