Knightfall

A black-haired woman, her hair kept short with the exception of a pair of long strands that framed her face, crested a hill and took in the sight below her. She wore silver armor that protected her shoulders and chest, as well as a blue dress worn beneath it, and a large belt around her waist that held a sheathed sword. Below her, the road split into three paths: one turned east into a dense forest, one continued north to a farming village off in the distance, and the final one led to a large walled city.

This woman was Asa LeRush, a knight of the Kingdom of Taers. She had been dispatched to investigate concerning rumors surrounding the rising crime in the area around the city of Hecia. Among the rumors was one that said the trade, banned throughout the kingdom a decade ago, continued here; another said that the ruling Baron was being paid off by the criminal elements; others still said that elements of organized crime had ties to the Fayan Duchy to the east.

Rumors were one thing, Asa's commander had said, but there was a clear rise in crime in the area. For now, a single knight known for her loyalty, Asa, would be sent to investigate. Should she uncover any evidence, a larger investigation would begin.

What went unspoken was that if Asa disappeared under mysterious circumstances, that too would serve as a valid justification for a larger investigation.

The reason Asa was chosen was due to her loyalty. The LeRush family had served the Kingdom for generations, and even if she could read between the lines as to her reason for being sent here, she still went willingly due to her desire to protect the people of the Kingdom from crime.

This would be the beginning of her investigation. Where would be best for her to begin?
