Historical Elseworlds: What if...

Important Author Notes:

As the synopsis says, the idea for storytelling purposes is that two new multiverses have arisen, one for DC and one for Marvel, and each of the individual universes (branches/threads within the story itself) explores the possibility of what could have happened if certain of the famous comic book (and of their adaptations) characters have been born and raised in older periods of time than the usual 20th or 21st-century tales that we are used to. So, their origin stories would be affected by the nurture aspect of these characters being different in this altered historical context.

For reference to future writers who may be interested in creating your own branches, you don't have to be completely and utterly exact with the historical background of the new setting for these reborn character versions of say, Batman, Superman, Iron Man, Captain America, etc. Being loosely inspired by the setting is fine because I know that there can be many conflicting sources and interpretations of different periods, especially the further back into ancient times you go.

And as much of a history buff as I am, both by profession in some areas/eras and by hobby in others, I know I will be making some mistakes because anyone who tells you they know the ENTIRE history of a certain period or major historical figure, particularly a long one or a long-lived one, is either knowingly lying or just making an honest mistake. There are always details that are lost to the sands of time and regardless, I don't intend to make it a requirement for future writers to research their chapters deep enough to the point of qualified expertise on a subject. The larger point, at the end of the day, is for all of us to have fun exploring the possibilities of some of our favorite characters doing things differently had they been born and raised in the past, not to turn this into a chore.

Now, my own branch I have been outlining will focus on the following Elseworld: What if Kal-El landed on Earth early on during the Roman Empire and was adopted into the First Imperial Family?

To be more precise, my branch would start during Augustus' reign, the very first Emperor, though others are welcome to test their own ideas on different periods of Roman history if you want. It's a remarkable era and a very long one, after all.

There will be some time skips in my branch after the initial chapters so that we can get to the point where Kal-El is 18 years old to fulfill the Chyoa rules before he gets to have sex, but regardless, expect loads of changes. And yes, there will be some other DC characters in this case that will have their own counterparts in this period and may cross paths with this Roman version of Superman, although in some cases it will feature long-lived characters from DC who were already alive if younger in this period. Like my version of Diana/Wonder Woman for this universe/branch, for example.
