Just a normal guy

Chapter 1 by MindGuy MindGuy

"Man... What if I died today?"

I asked this question many times, living is both terrifying and beautiful since life is just: You're born, you do shit, and then you die. It's hard not to think of mortality when you live in a world where at any moment a giant space monster could appear out of nowhere, and if the heroes aren't fast enough, all of humanity could get eradicated in an instant.

Superheroes and supervillains are always fighting, any type of power will always meet its counterpart; no matter how strong, fast, or agile you are, there's always someone better and worse than you. But what if you have a power that doesn't require any physical attribute? In that case, you're only limited to your intelligence (or the lack of).

Me? I'm just a normal dumbass called Jason Sharp, I'm a tall man with black hair, with a huge dick (I swear), I live in the northeast of New York, and I'm 22 years old.

I recently moved out of my parent's house and to my new house. I saw they were giving nice deals on this area after a villain made a crater nearby, so obviously I took it, yeah there's a giant hole (which used to be a house) next to my house but also it means 1 annoying neighbor less nearby. I live a pretty normal life just doing some jobs in graphic design, some web design, and investing (praying the stock keeps going up).

So yeah, I live this basic ass life and I'm also lonely as fuck, I wish I could break this monotony by doing something more exciting and just stop being less boring in general. like I was convinced that I would die before knowing what a woman's boob feels like... That was until something crazy happened.

"So you still don't fully know what this purple gem is?"

Says Hera (the goddess of women) to Zeus (the god of thunder and the ruler of all gods); Hera saw a mysterious purple gem landing from outer space on Mount Olympus, then after she picked it up to inspect it, Zeus also saw it, and they were both confused about what this gem is, so they decided to study it.

Zeus then answers "No, you said that you saw it as it landed here, right?" Hera nods and answers "Indeed, luckily you and I were able to intercept it before other gods did..."

Zeus says "After researching it for a bit, I noticed it has quite odd properties, it seems to be connected with the universe itself, like a small string that's still connected to a bigger cosmic net... However, it has quite a small amount of energy, probably close to running out." Hera looks at the gem, she's curious about it since most cosmic objects don't have these weird properties.

She and Zeus think that it's an incomplete object and most likely created by a random anomaly of cosmic energy, which is quite common when you think about how random the universe really is. Some gods across the universe's history were lucky enough to find different types of cosmic energy to create powerful artifacts or weapons. Sadly this just seems like a broken gem that's about to run out of cosmic energy.

Hera then looks at Zeus, she can tell that he's planning something, so she asks "What are you planning to do with this purple gem?" Zeus then looks at her and answers "I think I'm just gonna send it to the mortal realm..." Hera then reacts with confusion and asks "What!? Why?"

Zeus then explains "Despite its current low cosmic energy, we still don't know this gem's true potential; however, if we merge the gem with a mortal host, the host could unlock the true potential of the gem and show us the true cosmic energy that hides inside of this purple gem." Then Hera asks "Then why don't you just make yourself the host?" Zeus then answers "As I said before, the energy has a small connection to the universe... Who's to say that the energy inside of the gem wouldn't do something like drain my power away, damage me from the inside, or have some sort of side effect? We need to test it first and see what happens."

Hera then thinks about it and says "So your plan is to grab a random mortal that can be our guinea pig to test this mysterious energy and see what it can truly do?" Zeus then nods and adds "Exactly, imagine if we're able to unlock and discover some sort of powerful energy that's somehow connected with the universe, or even manage to control it in the best-case scenario; plus we're the only gods who're aware of this."

Hera isn't 100% sure but she would be lying if she said that she wasn't intrigued about what this purple gem can actually do, so Hera says "Okay dear, but you HAVE to be careful, we don't want this experiment to blow out of proportions and making us have to deal with some bigger problem."

Zeus then smirks and says confidently "Don't worry honey, its host is gonna be a regular mortal, with zero experience with cosmic powers, zero knowledge about us, and weak enough that even if he tries to do something, we can just extract the energy away from him and eradicate him before he even has a chance to do anything serious; you know that regular mortals don't stand a chance against us." Hera then smirks and says "Yeah that's true, I'll give you that."

After they concluded their conversation, Zeus used a small fraction of his energy to discreetly teleport this purple gem far from Mount Olympus all the way to Earth, all in less than the blink of an eye.

A mortal is gonna get really lucky, since if the purple gem doesn't kill him, he will now be the bearer of a random cosmic power sent from the gods (even if it's a really small amount of energy). Zeus and Hera will check on him from time to time to see the progress of their little experiment, even tho this is more out of curiosity, and to see if this cosmic energy could actually be useful.

With that in mind, there's no way that giving this purple gem with cosmic power to a regular mortal could cause any type of major problem for the gods themselves, right?.. Right!?
