Cheater

This takes us back a year now but if you're honest, it's where this whole implausible tale began. A history trip for a weekend to see the WWI memorial sites and battlegrounds. You'd been buzzing about it for the whole 10 months previously because whilst your history teachers and the subject were cool, it was a weekend away from home with all your best friends and (lest we forget) some of the hottest girls in your year group and the year above.

The funny thing was that the girls you'd obsessed over pretty much throughout high school weren't the characters that would end up taking centre stage.

Lauren was (and still is) the year above you. Popular but not someone that you and your mates had ever had on your radar. If her name had come up before it might have gone something like this...

"Yeah, Lauren"

"In the year above?"

"Yes. With the dark hair."

"Which Lauren?"

"Aw, y'know, she's in all the dance shows and the school musicals."

"Ah! Yeah, I know her. Is she called Lauren? Cool."

Lauren caught your attention very early indeed on that trip. You and Sam ended up sitting literally further forward on the coach than anybody else. Sure, the cool kids in the year above dibsed the back row, but you'd hoped to at least bag some seats around halfway down- where the action is!

But no. Sam overslept and nearly missed the whole trip; you waited for him as everyone boarded and in hindsight should have just got on and reserved him a seat. But at 4:45am this hadn't occurred to you and the rest was 'History'. Ha ha. Pun intended.

Sam didn't care of course. As soon as he got on, the earphones were in and 6 hours of gaming were underway. Why did you even befriend Sam?
