Breaking in the Babysitter

Roger lived a life that earned the envy of many. He had a loving wife, Julia, and a sweet little boy Wesley who was 4 years old. Both Roger and Julia had well paying jobs - which ultimately meant that they had jobs that took up a lot of their time. Julia worked as high ranking financial officer in a multinational company- a job that took her to various places across the country. Roger was a novelist who had sold a couple of million copies of his first 3 novels. His publisher, editor and fans had been hounding him to write the next one.

This demanding lifestyle meant that they had very little time to take care of their boy Wesley. A sweet and smart child - Wesley still needed someone to take care of him and make sure he got his exercise and food on time. Over a period of time, and several trials and errors - they decided that they had to hire a babysitter. Roger thought that Julia should have a say in who should be hired as the babysitter and what should their next steps forward be. Roger knew that Julia could be a bit anal about her selection of a babysitter and he decided to let her take the reins in hiring the right candidate. After rejecting numerous applications, they came across Dani - a cute 19 year old blonde college student who had moved into town.

"So Dani - tell me a bit about you" Julia asked her as they sat down for coffee.
"Well, I'm English Lit major and I'm actually moving into town for college. I'm trying to save up money for a Europe trip that I have planned with my friends after the end of our college year. I have 5 years of experience as a babysitter, I've been doing it ever since I was 14. I can cook well, I'm trained in First Aid and took a crash course in CPR. And kids tend to like me a lot so they're naturally obedient" she chuckles. Julia smiles back and squeezes her hand. "Julia - I think I like you and to be honest, we're **** for a good babysitter - could we go over how much I would have to pay you?"

They discussed about the price and chatted about the cost of living and college and rental apartments. Roger walked into the living room and heard the conversation happening before he saw it. Julia sat with a hot cute blonde, as they chatted animatedly. He checked himself out in the mirror at the entrance, short dark hair, with streaks of grey, a well groomed stubble and his broad shouldered physique, lithe and fit from swimming and running everyday. He walked in and the cute blonde looked up - she stared at him for a second before her eyes went wide in recognition and she squealed "OH MY GOD YOU'RE ROGER GRAVES!!!! I'M SUCH A HUGE FAN!!!"

Julia shook her head and smiled at Roger, she was often used to people recognizing her husband and going crazy in the middle of the street, or ambushing them at the airport or restaurant for a selfie or an autograph. Except this time, she wanted to see if she could use this connection to lower the price.
"Oh you're a fan?" she asked coyly, give her husband a discreet wink. Roger caught it quickly and threw Dani his signature charming smile that had been practiced in front of the mirror several times.
"Hey, nice to meet you - I didn't get your name" he asked her in his rich deep voice.

Dani almost swooned at hearing his voice. and started gushing hard about how much she loved his books and how they had been her favourite escapes from reality - nothing Roger hadn't heard from a hundreds of fans before. He smiled and nodded politely before sitting down. "So - what are we discussing? Where are we stalled?" he asked Julia - reading the situation from her face.

Julia explained how they might not be able to afford to pay Dani her asking price - and so far Dani was one of the most qualified candidates that she had interviewed. Roger nodded a few times and asked to nobody in particular "What about the spare bedroom?"

Julia smiled at his suggestion. "That works - Dani - we have a spare bedroom, we could put you up there. We can cut back on the price and you can stay with us. All the food and utility expenses would be on us - if you want to buy something for yourself - well, you can pay for it yourself. You'll be close by to take care of Wesley as well. It all works out - what do you say?"

"You mean to tell me - I'll be living in your the same house as THE Roger Graves?!" Dani asked with an excited look before quickly suppressing it and pushing her excitement down and letting her professionalism show. "I think that would be awesome. I think I could make that work. How soon do you want me to start? I can move in accordingly" she added with a sweet smile. Julia beamed and asked her to start tomorrow.
