Boudoirs and Beholders

Revealing quests in a tantalizing D&D campaign

Chapter 1 by Wulfblade Wulfblade

Several college-aged friends gathered around a table, their excitement palpable as they prepared for their regular Dungeons & Dragons session. The room was dimly lit, with a table adorned with maps, character sheets, and a collection of colorful dice. As the players filed into the room the atmosphere filled with anticipation and excitement, because in this campaign they had collectively consented to be willing to push beyond the normal boundaries…

The players took their seats. The bard, a young woman with flowing auburn hair and a mischievous glint in her eyes, wore a vintage-inspired blouse adorned with intricate lace details, coupled with her high-waisted jeans to showcase her fashionable flair.

The sorcerer, a young man with a playful grin and an air of confidence, sported a graphic t-shirt depicting his favorite fantasy game. His well-worn jeans and sneakers gave off a casual yet cool demeanor, while a stack of colorful bracelets adorned his wrist, tokens from his brushes with spirituality at campus yoga classes, even if he hardly ever attended them.

On the other side of the table sat the rogue, a young woman with light brown skin, short pixiecut black hair, an enigmatic smile and a twinkle in her eye, just visible over the sunglasses balancing on the tip of her nose. She usually donned a sleek black leather jacket over a fitted t-shirt and her ripped jeans and combat boots conveyed a sense of adventure and rebelliousness.

Finally the Dungeon Master took his seat behind the screen, at the head of the table. They were clad in a simple black shirt and dark jeans, and emanated an air of authority and wisdom as the players excitedly chattered across the table, while he completed his final preparations. Their neatly trimmed beard and glasses added a touch of intellectual charm, while their calm demeanor conveyed their experience in guiding players through epic adventures. As the DM prepared to begin the game the players instinctively halted their conversations and listened intently.

Quick explainer: Apart from some cheeky house rules the game conforms as much as possible to the current edition D&D rules... meaning you could technically execute the tricks used in a real game if you had a willing DM and table. This particular game also includes a couple of naughty house rules, such as that the player loses clothes if their character does.
