A shadow’s desire

A shadow’s desire

The old one

Chapter 1 by Shadowwrath Shadowwrath

You are an old creature. How old? You’ve never actually bothered counting. You don’t know why. It was something that always fascinated you about mortals, their need to measure their lives. But you had never felt a need to measure your life. But you knew you were old. You had been around before all the others. You could remember the beginning of all things and original two beings of light and darkness. You could remember the coming of the titans and the birthing of their children, the gods.

Though you were as old as the oldest of the great powers, you never considered yourself as one of them. Sometimes a moral civilization would consider you a god. That was usually the time you left the civilization. You didn’t like being called a god. It wasn’t because people gave themselves to you. You rather enjoyed the feeling of others’ flesh on yours, when you actually choose to have flesh. But there was just that something about a god need to hold dominion over others, and you didn’t want that. You never felt a need to control others, at least not to that extent.

Mostly, you enjoyed feeling free, unbound. That is your natural state after all, pure energy, pure shadow. You’re not exactly sure how to define yourself. You quite fit the sort of definitions others use. Then again, you don’t even have a proper name. That’s not for a lack of trying. You just never found a name you quite felt fit you. Though, as the world developed, you found others starting to give you names. The one that was most often used was, Reign Umbra. You choose to allow this, it’s not like you had much of a choice. Of course, you never found another like yourself.

This night, you descended on the city in the form of a mass of shadow. You had been living in Los Angeles for some time. You enjoyed the city. At least as much as you could enjoy a city. You had an estate just past the city limits. You descended into the mansion you had built on the estate. As your presence entered the mansion, you solidified in a humanoid shape. You found mortals reacted better to those who appeared humanoid, then those who did not.

What gender do you choose to take on tonight?
