You are Claudia, an aspiring adventurer raised in the town of Fort Prairie, in its orphanage to be specific.

The orphanage is by no means a dreary place, nuns and clergymen of the human god Erastil all take on responsibility in raising the large number of unwanted and orphaned children in a piously carved stone edifice that stands above the sprawling wooden buildings of Fort Prairie. The large church provides free lodging until the age of adulthood as well as regular lessons in the ways of being a productive commoner. If you promise them a few years of labor they will even train you in the sorts of skills that might change your class to merchant or acolyte.

While others study these safe and arguably necessary life skills, you long for the life of adventure. The massive riches you could earn. The mind bending powers that accompany the unlocking of an adventurer’s class.

You take every opportunity you can to try and earn monster xp. Volunteering to chase the slimes away from the vegetable patch. Cleaning the slimes that crawl into the church’s sewers. Cleaning off the chimney soot-slimes. Ever since you heard these mundane annoyances were technically monsters, you have eradicated every last one from the church much to the appreciation of the elder priests.

However, the day you reach adulthood has recently passed, if your class change doesn’t occur soon it is likely you will be stuck as a commoner forever.
