Controlling Maisie

You pull up in the car park and prepare yourself for another afternoon of beautiful agony. You will be spending the next few hours with your long time friend Maisie. The one who you have known since you were a toddler and been besotted with since puberty. The one who is always very sweet to you but seems to view you as a total sexual nonentity.

As you switch off the engine she is smiling to herself while she reads a text from some random jerk she will no doubt be dating that evening, after passing some entirely platonic time with you. She has no idea how heartbreaking this is for you to watch, so makes no attempt to disguise what she is doing.

It has always frustrated you that Maisie almost seems to view you as a modern day eunuch. You know she is fully aware that she is hot, and you are a young, red blooded male. Why does she insist on treating you almost as if you were one of her girl or gay friends, or her annoying kid brother?

You are about to step out of the car so as to not have to watch her text flirt any further when she suddenly reaches out and places her hand firmly on your arm to stop you. You can't help but feel somewhat hopeless as even that entirely practical gesture gets you a little hard.

"I need to tell you something, and I don't want anyone else to hear. So just sit here with me a minute okay?"

Is Maisie about to confess her secret, undying love for you? Of course not. It's far more likely she wants you to go and sound out some jock about whether or not they are ready for a relationship. But what she actually says is more confusing than anything.

"So look, I have something to say to you and it is going to sound pretty out there, but I have to tell one adult male about it and I want it to be you since you're not really like a guy" she giggles as she catches herself and how that sounded "Well, you know what I mean. We've been friends since forever and I know you would never take advantage of me in that way"

That all sounded pretty cryptic. You aren't sure what to say so just leave her to keep talking.

"So there is some kind of crazy curse that affects all the women in my family. Some ancestor of mine pissed off a witch or something. Anyway, it can be quite nasty if it falls into the wrong hands, but only the first guy who discovers my curse can control it, and I'm telling you so it never gets used"

This revelation has certainly got your curiosity piqued. Maisie seems ready to end the discussion there, but you want to know more.

"Okay, well if I need to discover this curse of yours, don't I at least have to know what it does?"

"Yeah, I guess" Maisie nods "It basically means you can do anything to me you want. Or make me do anything you want. Or even change me in any way you want. All you have to do is say my name and then what you want to happen. One of my aunt's ex-boyfriends apparently found out about the curse by accident, and that did not go well for her, so I'm telling you now so I can nip the whole thing in the bud and not have to worry about it"

"So this is kind of like a magical Simon Says that only I can use on you?" you try to clarify.

"Um, I guess" Maisie shrugs "Look, the whole point is I only told you about this power because you are never going to use it, so it doesn't really matter how it works, does it?"

"How do I know this isn't all just bullshit Maisie? Can't I at least prove to myself it's real and you aren't making fun of me?"

"Okay" Maisie sighs, rolling her eyes "Just once. Do something small, like change my hair colour"

"Right so, um..." you feel absurd doing this but need to know if it works "Maisie, have pink hair"

You gasp in astonishment as Maisie's dark brown hair instantly turns to a bright pink right in front of your eyes.

"Ugh, pink? why did you choose that?" Maisie complains as she examines her reflection disapprovingly in her camera phone "I don't want anyone seeing me like this. Turn it back!"

Even with you now literally and demonstrably in complete control of your friend, she is still ordering you around. And, for some reason, you are still obeying her.

"Maisie, turn back to normal" you instruct, returning her hair immediately to it's natural colour.

"There, so now you know I wasn't kidding" Maisie tells you almost smugly "And you can forget all about the curse and neither of us ever need to talk about it again"

You are about to say something more on the subject when her phone buzzes and she loses interest in you. Instead she is giggling happily at a message that random guy has just sent her, while apparently so confident in your compliance with her demands that, even with total magical control of Maisie, you are still not viewed as any kind of threat to her. Part of you knows that really she is right and you could never justify taking advantage of your new and unexpected power. But another, much larger, part of you is feeling an almost overwhelming urge to start enjoying your new gift.
