Chapter 13 by archer15 archer15

What does D'Hoffryn have to say?

Anya's Story

“You want to tell me what’s going on?” I asked as my old boss walked in.

D'Hoffryn smiled at me, which was always a weird expression. “Anya, you know you were always my favorite, I wanted to give you a wedding present.”

“That’s not your style,” I said suspiciously. “What’s the game plan? Where’s the vengeance?”

“You’ll have to share Xander with other girls for the rest of your life.”

Yeah, I wasn’t thrilled about that, but there was something else bothering me. “The world is a better place. People are alive who weren’t. You never allow that.”

He folded his hands in front of him, “I’ll leave it up to you. I’ll give you a rare exception. If you don’t like the wish, I’ll take it back. You can go back to the world where he left you at the altar.”

I grit my teeth. Something wasn’t right, could I really accept this? My life was better, the world appeared better, and even if there was some ulterior plan, what could stop them? Buffy was healthy, mentally and physically, her allies were in a better position, it was like we were given a winning hand.

But I knew better than to make a deal. I stood up and smoothed out my dress, “I’m going to get married. You do what you need to.”

“Right, well, I have time to see the ceremony, then I have a meeting to get to.”

-

“That concludes our arrangement,” Lilah said as she signed the paper. “We are very pleased with you work.”

“Thank you. I pride myself on being able to think outside the box. Creating a better world to cover one small adjustment was very fulfilling,” D'Hoffryn said in response. “Say hi to your new intern for me.”

Lilah nodded as he teleported away. A moment later the door opened, “You wanted to see me, Ms. Morgan?”

“Yes, Miss Summers, come in,” Lilah said with a fake smile as Dawn approached them. “Are you enjoying your internship?”

“I’ll be honest, I never really considered a career in law, but everyone here has been so nice to me.”

Lilah’s smile broadened, it wasn’t an overstatement to say that everyone within this building was working toward making Dawn think she was having the perfect internship, “Well we’ve been thrilled with what you’ve done. This request is going to be a little weird, could you take this paper, call the number at the top, and say everything on it.”

Dawn picked up the paper and read aloud, “Glory, we have the Key and would like to negotiate. Please contact us at your earliest convenience. Any of our branches will do.”

“Plus the signatures,” Lilah added.

“Lilah Morgan of Wolfram and Hart, delivered by Dawn Summers,” she finished confused. “Is this some type of code or something?”

“Something like that. As a lawyer, sometimes people are too paranoid for their own good. Send that message and you can take off for the night. I hear some of the partners got some tickets to the Backstreet Boys and are looking for some interns to join them.”

“Really?” Dawn said excitedly. “Wow, being a lawyer is awesome. I’ll get it done right away.”

Lilah smiled as she watched her go. What wouldn’t a hellgod be willing to sign away? “Yes Dawn, it is awesome indeed.”
