Chapter 21

What form does 'comfortable' take?
A luxurious beach
Below your feet, grains of sand appeared out of nowhere, spreading out before your eyes in grand circles. it begins to feel warm as a bright, blue sky appears, with two hot suns appear above you. Water fills in the near distance, with great rhythmic rushing of the waves against the new beach. Behind you, large vertical trees pop up, providing useful bits of shade.

"It's beautiful" You let out as the work appears to be complete, turning to Dresca "Is this your version of home?"
"Oh, heavens no!" She said as she laid down in the sand, using her hands as a pillow as she basked in the warmth "Well, that depends on how you want to define that term. Not where I was born or grew up, but there beaches like this in the world my people arrived on, before I was Enlightened and departed. Not as peaceful though; crawling with monsters of one type or another, could never get rid of them for long." She sighed as she adjusted her body "It's nice to be able to relax and actually enjoy the scenery for once."
"Look" You say with some strain "you're a nice....lady, but the more you talk, I only get more confused. Can we start with some basics? Like, I don't even know what you are or where you're from. Can we start with that?"
"That's fair enough." She replied with a slight nod "You probably don't have any of my kind in this universe. It's curious though how there are humans in every one that I've visited, but that's a different story. I'm known as a Draenei, and come from a very different place"
"You mean, you don't come from T'sara? At all?"
"Nope, nor any of the other planes it touches. I transcend all of that, and so do you, if you wish."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, let me ask you this; where do you think you are right now?"
"I'm...on a beach"
"Right, because that's all I've created."
"But, what about all of what I was told about threads of fate and different possible existences?"
"Ohhh, that man. Confining himself in his boxes. I regret ever meeting him. Forget anything he told you. He thinks too small"
"Okay, but even that small thinking is having me confused."
Dresca sits up and extends her hands. In each, a small sun appears, each of them with a different number of planets orbiting it, and those with moons orbiting them in turn.
"Consider it this way, if you can." As she lifts her right hand "You reside here. Everything in this universe is connected, to one another, and it appears neat and orderly. And over here, is me" As she lifts the other one "on first glance they appear the same, or at least close enough. The planets move in the same direction in the same way. They appear close together, and one would think that they had the same creation and would interact with one another."
"Sure, okay"
"Well, Imagine this" an iridescant sphere surrounded each of them. "That one is immune to the other, because any sense of proximity or similarity is an illusion or cosmic coincidence" For show, the two spheres passed through each other, despite appearing to be completely solid objects. "They both exist, but not in relation to one another."
"Alright, I guess I understand that, but who creates this?"
"I did, just now" She responds promptly
"No, I mean. Your world, my world. What God made this?"
"None" Dresca responded clearly, nuetrally "I know it's a lot to think about, and a lot to let go of, but consider this. The Gods didn't create this, I did. In this space, there are no Gods"
"There must be though, doesn't there? Some god gave you the ability to cast magic, right?"
"No, not as you understand it. There are no spells here, no charms or incantations. Might there be some greater cosmic being who created all power and all things in all universes? Maybe, but none of us have ever found or heard of them."
"And what do you call yourselves, exactly?"
"Well, it's not like there's a club or fraternity of us out there. Not that I've heard of, at least. You have your Dungeon Masters out there, or those with similarly grim foundations. A few will call themselves Storytellers. Me, I prefer to call us what we are, Creators."
"So you can do what? Anything?"
"pretty much, ya." She nods "Your Dungeon Master only seems to work with a predecessor already created, but the very existence and rules are at your figure tips."
"Wow" You say understatedly "I don't know where I would even begin"
"Well, you don't have to create an entire cosmos" She said as she waved to the beach "Start small."
With not a word or a single motion, the beach and surrounding environment fade away, and you return to black void you met Dresca in earlier. You're not sure what to do next, or why this stranger from another reality has such a fascination with you, but you have to do something, lest you stare into nothingness for all of time...
What do you create?
