A cozy taste of home

Start small, she says. That's funny, coming from someone who created an entire beach and ecosystem with a thought. Your ideas of small are clearly different. Still, this Dresca doesn't seem to be the judgmental type, a far improvement over the Dungeon Master who cast you out. There's value in that, and you remember she commented that he had simply worked with what someone had already made. Given that, you decide to create from what you already know, rather than freehanding something.

Your memories are gone, mostly, but there's a few things here and there that you hold onto; enough for you to start from. You remember small parts of your childhood, mostly your home. A small bedroom appears around you, with a large bed for two adults and a smaller one for a child. The floor was cold and hard, you remember that clearly enough. As you reach through these memories, they start to fill in, sometimes with better specificity than others. With Dresca behind you, you start to move into what would be another room, the main eating and living area. The walls and furniture are all present, but the details are off. There's a fire burning in a fireplace but with no wood. There are windows to the empty black nether of planeless space, a work still to fill in. A decorative frame hosts above the door, but with no painting or art actually inside of it. Still, it was something.

"I like it" Dresca says with a smile "It feels very homey."

"It's my home, or what I remember of it."

"Well, it's your home again, if you want it to be. Let it be your practice space, your home, your refuge from toils, and whatever else you need."

"Refuge?" You ask, "Refuge from what?"

"Well, from work, from managing the worlds and lives you create. Some of us create worlds within worlds and just delight in watching how things turn out, often to disastrous ends, before wiping it all away. You, on the other hand, I don't see doing that. You have an empathetic sprit. You should hold onto that, as much as you can, but that also means that you have to try and course correct for all of the unintended consequences of whatever you make. The more you build, the more you're responsible for, and it can get overwhelming. Places like this, let you take some time away from everything, let things play out for a while."

"Wow" You reply "I guess I didn't think about all of that"

"Most don't, until it's too late. At least, of the few others of us that I've met."

"Can you help me than?" You ask "I don't want to make a mistake"

"Sorry kid," Dresca shook her head slowly "Mistakes are a guarantee. If you let that hold you back, you won't amount to much. Certainly won't be any better than the man who granted you your powers. I don't know about you, but I'd want to show him up."

"Just remember" Dresca said as she started to head to the door, that lead out to nothing "failing at something does not define you as a failure. You already have everything you need, you just have to apply yourself. That and maybe make some company. It can get lonely"

A strange suggestion, but perhaps not surprising from someone who flaunts her alien beauty in the nude "Will I see you again?"

"That's a promise" She replied with a thumbs up "When? I don't know, but eventually. Benefit for us, time is no longer an issue. You're immortal now, same as I."

Dresca stepped out into the void, and disappeared in an instant, falling through the empty black space, leaving you once again alone. As much as the Dungeon Master was a liar, an abuser, and an exploiter, you did enjoy having the company of another before this all became evident. This home wasn't built for one person, you realize as well, and there's the underlying feeling that because you can do everything you could ever want, that you should get started and make something, but what?
