Mai VS Marik

Two players stood at the opposite of each other.

Mai: "If I beat you, the God is mine, isn't it?"

Marik laughed: "Hahaha, a mortal like you wants to control God? What a ridiculous dream!"

Then he took out the Millennium Rod: "Now, let the Shadow Game begin!"

The dark fog filled the entire field and applied mental pressure on everyone.

Mai: "What is this magician trick?"

"This is no trick, but a sacred battle ritual. The winner will take everything of the loser. If you win, you can have The Winged Dragon of Ra. But that will never happen."

Below the stage, Joey shouted: "Mai! This duel is dangerous! If you lose, you'll die! Just walk away! I don't want to see my friend be hurt!"

Mai glared at him: "Shut up! Don't try to **** your so-called 'power of friendship' on me. I fight alone!"

"Here I come, Marik!" Mai drew a card, "I Normal Summon 'Amazoness Chain Master' in defense position."

"Set three cards, I end my turn."

"My turn, draw!" Marik drew a card, "I Normal Summon 'Makyura the Destructor' in attack position."

"Makyura the Destructor, attack Amazoness Chain Master!"

The executioner cut down the female warrior, but before she died, she threw the chain in her hand and grabbed a card in Marik's hands.

You surely have the Sun God in your hand, don't you?"

Marik took out "The Winged Dragon of Ra" and handled it to Mai.

"And that's not all! Open the set card: Continuous Trap Card - Amazoness Willpower! Target 1 'Amazoness' monster in my GY; Special Summon it in Attack Position! Come back, Chain Master!"

"Then I activate the Trap Card 'High Speed Aria'. Send 1 Normal Spell Card from my hand to the Graveyard; this card's effect becomes that Normal Spell Card's effect when that card is activated. But I cannot activate Spell Cards during my next turn.

By this effect, I activate the effect of 'Ties of the Brethren'. Pay 2000 Life Points to Special Summon up to 2 Level 4 monsters from my hand or Deck with the same Type, Attribute, and Level as a monster I control.

Marik just smirked: "Betting all-in since the beginning. What a reckless gambler you are."

Mai: "During the turn 'Ties of the Brethren' is activated, I cannot conduct the Battle Phase."

Marik: "But this is my turn, so you don't have the Battle Phase to begin with. Look like you are not a dumb blonde. Hm, then I'll end my turn here."

Mai: "Not even set a card? You are underestimating me, and you'll pay for it! My turn, draw.

I Tribute 'Amazoness Chain Master' to summon 'Amazoness Queen'!

Marik: "Oh? Not summon Ra this turn?"

Mai waved her hand: "Open the set card: Trap Card - Free-Range Monsters! During the Main Phase: Immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon/Set 1 monster.

I Tribute 'Amazoness Paladin', 'Amazoness Swords Woman', and 'Amazoness Queen' to summon 'The Winged Dragon of Ra'!

Marik nodded: "So that's your purpose. When 'The Winged Dragon of Ra' is Tribute Summoned, its original ATK/DEF becomes the combined original ATK/DEF of the monsters Tributed for its Summon."

Yugi began to count: "Paladin's ATK is 1700, Swords Woman's ATK is 1500, and Queen's ATK is 2400, which means Ra's ATK is..."

[The Winged Dragon of Ra, ATK 5600]

Joey cheered: "Marik only has Makyura the Destructor with 1600 ATK on his field! If this attack passes, it'll cause 4000 damage! OTK!"

Mai slapped the card on her Duel Disk: "Descend to the Earth, Sun Dragon Ra!"

A massive orb of shining golden metal appeared over the blimp. Mai looked up at the sphere, asking: "Is this what Ra looks like? Why didn't it resemble the picture on the card?"

Marik suddenly burst into laughing: "Hahaha you fool! I told you, didn't I? A mortal like you trying to control God is ridiculous!"

"What do you mean? When a monster is under a player's control, all its powers belong to the Duelist who possesses it!"

"But Ra is not a monster, it's a God! And only Duelists chosen by God can control it. If you still don't believe me, take a good look at the God card in your Duel Disk."

Frowning, Mai did so and was shocked to see hieroglyphs in the text space. She knew that something wasn't right; when she originally took the God card from Marik, there was nothing written in the text space, but now there were definitely hieroglyphs.

Marik: "Those letters are Hieratic Text, the language used for law, literature, and religion in ancient Egypt. It contains the key to awakening the true powers of Ra, the tremendous powers of the Sun God. But only those who are chosen by Millennium Items, or members of the Tomb Keepers clan like me, can read it.

Now, can you decipher the script?"

Frustrated, Mai accepted that she had the card, but she couldn't use it: "I... I end my turn."

Marik chuckled: "As far as you are concerned, that God may as well not exist. Even if I attack you this turn, Ra won't protect you."

Joey: "Damn it! This is a card game! The idea of a card that only special people can use is stupid!"

"I can just order Makyura to finish you, but I'm in a good mood today," Marik said, then turned his head to look at Yugi, "Hey Yugi, do you know that Ra has three special powers? I'll reveal just one of them."

He crossed his arms and began to chant. Light began to shine out from the cracks in the sphere above him as it slowly cranked open. Wings, arms, and legs slid out one after another. The sphere was now fully transformed, revealing a hunched, bird-like form.

Marik explained: "This is one of Ra's special powers. God himself will serve the player who utters the sacred text.

The Winged Dragon of Ra, direct attack! God Blaze Cannon!"

The golden dragon opened its mouth, releasing a surging flame, incinerating Mai in a blaze of fire. Joey yelled Mai's name desperately, but she couldn't hear him.
