Chapter 18 by haileytraynor haileytraynor

what about Kyrie?-

It was business as usual in the Sector 7 slums. People bustling here and there, kids playing in the suburbs, and the guards keeping the peace as best they could. The destruction of the nearby Mako Reactor had shaken part of the plate to its core, but the human spirit was nigh unstoppable, as dozens upon dozens of volunteers had stepped up and offered a helping hand.

While these brave souls were putting their safety on the line for the benefit of their fellow Sector 7-ites, one of the tourists who had starting reaping said benefits was a newly confident Kyrie, skipping along the streets of the Sector, smiling with a newfound sense of satisfaction.

"All that's left is to sell this stuff off, get on the last train out, and I will be home free!" the girl exclaimed with glee, her final victory getting closer to closer to fruition. She was walking to the item shop to make out the amount of gil needed to take the train ride over to Kalm, where she would wait out the conflict between Shinra and Avalanche before returning and reaping the benefits. Maybe she'd take the time to frame one or the other for a couple accidents that may befall others within the walls...

Walking into the item shop, she greeted the shopkeeper before opening up her bag. "I would like to sell this stuff off!" she explained. She pulled out several different items: a pair of black combat boots, a dark grey vest that looked very used, a pair of gauntlets, a shoulder pauldron, a pair of puffy black pants, and about a dozen pieces of materia, all splattered out across the counter.

The shopkeeper examined each item carefully. All of it was used, yes, but he was expecting it to be so. Despite the wear and tear of some of the items, they were still in good shape, and should net a good amount of gil for the girl.

However, the shopkeeper then examined the goods with a more critical eye before looking back and examining the girl offering them to him. 'These clothes would be quite large on her,' he said to himself. 'Where did she actually get this stuff...?'

He pushed this thought away as he remembered the words of his mentor: 'You never ask where the goods come from,' the words echoed through his mind. 'Accept the goods, pay them what they're due, and wish them a good day. No questions asked.'

The shopkeeper nodded, and spoke. "I can pay you 5000 gil for all of this," he finally answered.

Kyrie nodded with enthusiasm. "Deal!" she replied, before taking the money and watching as all the clothing and materia went behind the counter, ensuring that she had finally gotten what she needed. The shopkeeper wouldn't ask any questions, and that man from the church hopefully wouldn't have the confidence to chase after her. Even then, he didn't know that she took the clothes, so why would he?

She then wondered what that man was up to now. Was he awake? Did someone find him? Did he actually decide to leave the relative safety of the church and try to find some modesty? Kyrie internally laughed at the thought of that hunk running around in nothing but his black boxer briefs...

Taking the gil she was owned, she said her thanks and goodbyes to the shopkeeper and made her way to the train station. Several minutes of waiting later, she boarded the train, passing by a tough-looking lady and a large, black man with a gun-arm, paid the fee, and took her seat. The train left the station at the top of the hour, Kyrie smiling to herself.

She did it. She made it out.

Here's to Kyrie.
