Chapter 4 by Euqen Euqen

Uh-

oh.

Vornell's car peeled out in a screech of rubber and a stink of burning tyres.

He nearly clipped a trash can, yanked his wheel away at the last second, and somehow made it onto the road.

His hands squeezed the wheel, his heart pounded faster than the engine, and, just for variety, he swore for a while.

What were those things? How fast were they? Could they catch up to his car?

And why-

Why did they sound like they were laughing?

He glanced in his rearview mirror. No sexy alien women ran after him like that one scene in that dinosaur movie.

He looked forward again just in time to realize he was about to run a red light. Screw it.

He could almost, could almost still smell them. In fact, it was stronger than the park. Had he stepped in something?

He glanced into the footwell. No green on his shoes.

Wait. When he looked in the mirror, there was something out the corner of his eye...

He reached up, with trembling hand, and tapped the bottom of his rearview.

It tilted down.

Just far enough for him to see the dark, rounded shape hiding behind his seat.

The shape that was just opening up at the tip, in a puff of green mist and pulsating light.

Vornell stared at the egg.

And ran into another car.

Red a-hurt
