greeted from his slumber by Duncan

Chapter 31 by ARavingLooony ARavingLooony

"Two more death's" Alistair sighed "in my Joining only one of us died" he looked like he was recalling a painful memory "but it was...horrible. I'm glad at least one of you survived" he added with a smile. Dane was equally happy too as his mabari bounced around Aedan letting out a few happy bark's.

Aedan groaned as he got back onto his feet; albeit rather unsteadily. "I dreamt...there were hordes of darkspawn but then I saw this thing" Aedan informed "it was a dragon; black and purple with the biggest teeth I imagine any dragon would have"

"The archdemon" Duncan surmised "you are not the only one to have such visions" Duncan looked at Aedan carefully "how do you feel?"

"Aside from the hordes of darkspawn, the large eerie and disgusting dragon I saw in my dream's.." Aedan shrugged "not bad" Aedan looked at Duncan rather sternly "I still cannot believe that you killed Ser Jory. He was a coward yes, but did he really deserve that?"

Duncan sighed "he was warned that there was no turning back. As were you all. I took no pleasure in doing that but it had to be done. He went for his blade and I had to defend myself. The Blight demands sacrifices from us all. You stand here as proof that it was not all in vain"

"I had terrible dream's when I first joined" Alistair spoke "I cannot say if it were worse than yours, its apparently worse for people who join during a Blight" he looked at Duncan "or so I've been told"

Aedan made a light chuckle "whether it was worse than yours I don't know" he shrugged "though I would most certainly prefer to not have to go through it again"

"Either way, you are now a member of the Grey Wardens. Which means that you should look the part" Duncan said formally as he gestured to a nearby armour stand which held the same armor that Alistair wore upon it "today marks your first day as a member of the Grey"

Aedan nodded and proceeded to remove his current armour piece by piece and once he was down to just his loincloth did he work on removing the Grey Warden armour from the stand and ensured that all the pieces were able to firmly fit his build which thankfully they did. The armour was just as protective as his old armour that he had ditched.

"Before I forget there is one last part to the Joining" Alistair spoke and held up a pendant "we take some of the darkspawn blood and put it in a pendant. To remind us who didn't make it this far" to which Aedan took and put it around his neck, the pendant reaching to just above where the crest of the Grey Wardens; a griffon was engraved onto the cuirass.

A grey Warden sword and shield lay next to the armour stand which Aedan promptly equipped.

"Take some time" Duncan said comfortingly "when you are ready, I'd like you to accompany me to a meeting with the king"

Aedan arched a brow "what kind? and why do I need to be there?"

"I am unsure. He has requested your presence. He is discussing strategy for the upcoming battle with Loghain Mac Tir" upon the moment Aedan heard Loghain's name he was shocked. The man who fought alongside King Maric and drove out the Orlesian's from Fereldan was here!

"Loghain is here?" Aedan said, shocked "the same man who helped drive the Orlesian's off our land??"

Duncan chuckled "of coarse, he's one of the most decorated teyrn's of Fereldan. He wants the battle here to end swiftly. The meeting is to the west. Down te stairs. Please attend as soon as you are able"

Aedan nodded and pondered his next move.
