Chapter 32 by ARavingLooony ARavingLooony

"Loghain, my descion is final!" Aedan heard the voice of the young blonde King Cailain say, annoyed. "I will stand by the Grey Wardens in this assault"

Aedan merely watched as the highly decorated war hero Loghain Mac Tir argued with the king "you risk too much, Cailan. You're no child anymore, so stop acting like one" the Teyrn of Gwaren snapped as if he was scolding a child "the darkspawn horde are a dangerous foe, this will not be like those tales you seem to have deluded yourself into thinking where you're the hero to win the day. You are inexperienced in the art of war"

Aedan didn't interject but he knew that the ageing battle-hardened military mind of Loghain's was correct. The young Cousland didn't know much about King Cailian but based off the limited interactions he had with the young king, King Cailian seemed to indeed treat the darkspawn rather lightly.

"If thats the case then maybe we should wait for the Orlesian forces to join us then" Cailian rebutted, a suggestion that Aedan wasn't very pleased with and judging by the scowl crawling onto Loghain's face it would seem that the man who helped the late King Maric drive away those entitled asshat's off their land and back to Orlais where they belonged.

"Again" Loghain grinded his teeth in frustration "I must repeat my protest to your fool notion that we need the Orlesian's to defend ourselves!" Loghain's glare bore into Cailian "in case you have forgotten, your father and I bled for Fereldan to drive off those cheese-eating, frilly cake loving pieces of filth from our beloved nation"

Cailian it seemed wasn't convinced "our arguments with the Orlesians are a thing of the past. And you will remember who is king" the young golden haired king stated.

Loghain scoffed "how fortunate that Maric didn't live long enough to see his son hand over Fereldan to those who enslaved us for a century"

"Teyrn Loghain has a point, your Majesty" Aedan added "the Orlesian's are more likely to stab us in the back instead of help us" looking over to Duncan it was clear that by the sigh and shake of his head that Duncan did not wish Aedan to have gotten involved in the spat between king and teyrn.

"Ah, this is the recruit I met earlier?" Cailian smiled "Aedan Cousland" the young king saw the young noble fully kitted out in the signature armour of the Warden's "I'm sure Bryce and Elanor would be proud to see you now"

"They were proud of me long before I became a Warden, Your Majesty" Aedan stated. Especially his mother of whom was _VERY _proud of her son if all the times they'd lain together were to judge "I'm sure they'll be happy once I see that cunt Howe's life leave his body"

Cailian nodded "of coarse, and once the battle here is done I shall fulfil my promise and see to it that he faces justice" the king turned to the elder Grey Warden "Duncan, are your men ready for battle?"

Duncan nodded "they are, your Majesty"

"I'm sure you'll be eager for battle soon, Aedan. You should be honoured to be a part of the Wardens" Cailian smiled.

Loghain clearly was still very much not happy with the king's attitude "your fascination with legends will be your undoing, Cailian! we must attend to reality"

"Speak your strategy then" the king said, rolling his eye's "The Grey Wardens and I will draw the darkspawn to attacking our lines and then..."

"You will alert the tower signalling my men to charge from cover" the teyrn's anger it seemed had finally started to subside as he and the king went over the battle plans as they looked at the map currently laid out upon a table.

"To flank the darkspawn" the young king finished before pointing at an area of the map "this is the Tower of Ishal in the ruins, yes?" he rubbed his chin in thought "who shall light this beacon?"

"I have a few men stationed there" Loghain stated "it's not a dangerous task but it is vital"

Cailian smiled "then we should send our best. Send Alistair and Aedan to make sure it's done"

Aedan bowed his heaf respectfully "as you wish, your Majesty"

"You rely on these Grey Wardens too much, Cailian" the teyrn scoffed "is that truly wise?"

Cailian groaned "enough of your conspiracies, Loghain! Grey Wardens battle the Blight no matter where they're from"

"Your Majesty" Duncan interrupted "you should consider the possibility of the archdemon appearing" it was clear that this was indeed something Duncan was very worried about.

"There have been no sight of any dragons in the Wilds" Loghain said, waving the issue off dismissively. So that was indeed the archdemon that Aedan saw in his slumber the young noble thought.

"Isn't that what your men are here for, Duncan?" Cailian pointed out.

"I...yes, your Majesty" Duncan replied "we'll do our best and see to it"

"Then it is settled" Loghain surmised "the Grey Wardens shall light the beacon"

Cailian smiled "thank you, Loghain. I cannot wait for that glorious moment when the Grey Wardens stand beside the king of Fereldan to stem the tide of evil"

"Yes, Cailian. A glorious moment for us all" Loghain drawled.
