...descend the stairs.

Unlike the other stairs, these didn't squeak at all. Was that reassuring? Or somehow worse? The light continued to flicker throughout your descent.

At the bottom, several things became quickly apparent. First, the basement was a single room. No internal walls, or external windows or doorways. Second, the only other light switch you could see was on the opposite side of the room. Presumably, with the lights all already on, it also controlled all of them like the switch at the top of the stairs.

You scanned the room from your vantage at the bottom of the stairs. The left wall held a simple desk, and a different chair to the rest you'd seen. On the desk was a brand new (or very recent) flatscreen iMac with matching keyboard and mouse.

The wall opposite you contained two leather couches, brown trimmed with gold lines. They were armrest-to-armrest, and seemed to serve little function in the hospitality of the room.

Short of the right wall was the apparent source of the glow you'd noticed from the top of the stairs. A hot tub. But that was basically it for the basement. Besides the ongoing and irregular flickering of the lights, there weren't even any dark corners or spots out of sightline from the stairs.
