...inspect everything a little more closely.
Tapping the spacebar on the computer keyboard instantly activated the monitor. A login prompt appeared with the username 'Susan Jones.' That was the name of the lady you'd booked the cabin from. None of her messages had said anything about a computer, never mind whether it was available for guests to use.
The sofas were just, sofas. They were slightly smaller than the furry ones upstairs, and looked far less comfortable.
Several lights illuminated the hot tub from below the surface. The water was almost completely still- very likely cold- and seemed dark until the realization hit that it was just because the bottom of the tub was dark grey or black instead of the more common light grey or white.
On the wall above the pool was a painting of a pink and purple mushroom that seemed to glow against a dark background. Its colors seemed out of place in a very plain basement, but wasn't anything too remarkable itself.
The trip into the basement seemed more and more like a waste of time with each passing moment. You'd proved a point to someone that wasn't there, that you could investigate a boring basement. At least you hadn't left it to chance.
Time to keep looking for those lenses.
