Chapter 10 by fantaghiro
What's next?
days turn into weeks
Days turned into weeks as Sarah settled into her new life as Diana Laney, adapting to the routines and responsibilities that came with her borrowed identity. You watched closely, still grappling with the surreal reality of your wife inhabiting the body of the woman you both had complicated feelings about.
It was difficult to get time together, but Sarah made it happen. Everyone accepted that the Diana and you were helping each other navigate the emotional and logistical fallout of Sarah's ****. It helped build the lie that Diana's attitude was softening toward you - though no one would have suspected the two of you were sleeping together at least a couple nights each week.
You enjoyed the moments you had together, but your concerns for Sarah slowly grew. At first, the small things caught your attention — the way Sarah favored certain foods you’d never seen her eat before, or how she moved with a subtle grace that felt distinctly different. You tried to ignore the nagging thought that maybe Dr. Kerry’s warning was more real than you’d imagined.
One evening, after dinner, Sarah surprised you by suggesting you watch a documentary about Diana’s philanthropic efforts. It was an area she’d never shown interest in before, but now she spoke passionately about causes Diana had championed for years.
“I want to understand her,” Sarah said quietly. “Not just the woman I knew, but the one I’m living as.”
You nodded, admiring her determination. But beneath your admiration was a growing unease. Was Sarah consciously making changes to better live her mother's life, or was a deeper change happening?
The questions weighed on you as you looked across the room at Sarah, sitting with that confident poise that once belonged to her mother. You reached for her hand, hoping that no matter what, the bond between you would remain unbroken.

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
