Zack breaks it with a question

"Are you making my life more complicated, Heather?" Zack asked, exasperated.

"Or more fun?" She grinned. "Poor Zacky, one girl he's got a crush on, one girl he fucked, and one girl who's got a crush on him." She let the last sentence hang in the air before continuing. "And we can have your dear old friend in there too, if you want. I don't mind sharing."

"Heh, I never thought you would," Zack said. "Good friends share, right?"

"Oh yes," Heather cooed. "I knew I liked you for a damn good reason, you kinky bastard."

"Even after sleeping with your best friend who's in a relationship?" he asked. "I'm sorry, but I feel that would a deal-breaker."

"Zack dear," she said. "You're nice. You're not Kurt, I can tell. Things happen, and well... Ash is a bit more of a sex fiend than she'll let on. You and Brandon are going to have to have a conversation, but I already get the feeling he'll be sympathetic. Besides, I swear, I don't know how Brandon keeps up with her."

"Well, he is a football star in school."

"They have less staying power than you'd think."

Zack arched an eyebrow. Heather coughed.

"Er, anyway," she continued. "It was a heat of the moment thing, I know. I bet she got to you first."

Zack's resolve crumbled a bit, and he found he needed to sit. Heather joined him on a couch, and he then gurgled the events of that morning to her, from their initial clean up to their fiery encounter in the shower. Heather listened with baited breath, happily letting her imagination envision her best friend cursing at Zack to fuck her mercilessly. Zack then explained that Ashley had caught him and Victoria making out earlier that morning, which apparently revved her fantasy engine in the first place. At the end, Heather just had a broad smile plastered across her face.

"Damn, that must've been a thing to watch!"

"Hey!" Zack protested, then asked. "Which one?"

"Both!" Heather laughed. "I think I'm wrong, maybe you are more like Kurt."

"Now that's an insult!" Zack laughed as well. He held her gaze, and noticed its tone had changed. Heather still teased him, but something else was in her eyes. An attraction, and not just sexual. She enjoyed his company, he thought, and he had the feeling that this was rare in Heather's life.

"You're looking at me," Heather broke the silence. "It's not polite to stare."

"Sorry," Zack said. "I think... I was just trying to read you."

"Oh? Anything interesting?"

"Not sure yet... I think I may have to read more to find out."

"Do you want to you?" Heather's voice was laced with anticipation, having a starkly different tone than anything she else in the conversation before. The question was genuine, Zack just knew, but he had to be honest.

"I... don't know yet."

Heather's eyes tilted down, as she fiddled with her nails. After a moment, she chuckled, and met his gaze again with one of understanding, but with a hint of sadness. "I figured. But... I'll be here, when you do know. I know about nice guys."

"That they finish last?"

"Because they have more stamina."

Zack smiled. "Is that all?"

Heather paused, and leaned in carefully. "No," she said and gave Zack a tender peck on the forehead. "I said they were nice too."

Zack's mouth open to reply, but a bedroom door opened behind them and out wandered Ashley with tussled blonde hair and a big yawn. Heather regarded her with a huge grin, and looked back at Zack with an equal amount of cheekiness. He blushed, giving her a stare that meant, No, we didn't mean to have sex again, honest

"Hey Heather..." Ashley said. "Sorry, I was sleeping... just tired after this morning."

"Oh! Oh I'm sure you were!" Heather laughed.
