Chapter 17 by Yabusa Yabusa

What's Yuki's first action while awake?

Yuki wants to talk

For the longest time, everyone stared at Yuki, and she stared right back. Neither side made any sudden moves, and her fright eventually started to dissipate. Her body continued to fluctuate, but eventually it slowed down in frequency of changes, although from moment to moment she looked entirely different. "What have you done? Removing me from the cryo-chamber is sentencing me to ****, unless..."

"We found a way we might be able to help you." Zoe took a step forward, letting her hand split open as she greeted the other living suit, demonstrating their kinship. "It's admittedly something we should have thought of some time ago, but you know how work sometimes is so distracting..." Zoe laughed nervously, while Yuki's face remained unchanged in expression, despite everything else about it in flux. "Right, well. I'm Zoe, or Revision Z. May we call you Yuki instead of Revision Y? It was a suggestion from Kazumi here."

Yuki glanced at everyone present, analyzing their faces and internalizing who's who. Seeing she was among Hideki employees as well as those of her kind, she slowly nodded. "Yuki is... acceptable. You are certain that you have cured me? I was told that my condition was fatal and possibly untreatable." She glanced at the 'scars' on her arms at the seams where she had previously unfurled before being frozen. Curious, even if every attempt might shorten her lifespan, Yuki split her arm open again, demonstrating her bodysuit capability of being able to slice open her body wherever she pleased in order to wrap around a host. When she closed her arm again, she was surprised that the scar effect was less prominent, looking much closer to seamless than before. "Incredible..."

"Incredible indeed!" Chloe exclaimed from the group, wanting to at least get a few words in. "The DNA replacement therapy will still take time before it's fully successful, even though I know skinsuit physiology is pretty wild and takes to change pretty rapidly. Seeing results this soon is pretty encouraging, you're already synthesizing the new proteins!"

Yuki understood very little of this, but nodded all the same. "I have little energy. I'm so hungry. I must connect with a host."

It was Kazumi's turn to speak up, raising her hand a little to get noticed. "I'm here, I'm ready to help with that! I'm Kazumi, I chose your name, and I think we're going to have a lot of fun together."

Yuki stared at Kazumi for a little while, before taking a step back, squinting at her. "Fun, you say? My existence is not fun, I am no toy. Humans treated me like either a plaything or a test subject, what I wanted or needed was not a thought to them. The nicest thing people had done for me is seal me in a cryo chamber instead of letting me perish, but I didn't really want that either."

Zoe held out a hand again. "Okay, let's be calm. Kazumi is simply excited by this prospect, she was introduced to the concept of bodysuits and everything not long ago, but she doesn't mean anything of it. Yuki, the experiment budget ran out years ago, so we're not waking you up to continue experimentation. I for example work at the lab as a scientist myself now. None of us will make you do anything, but we're offering you a chance to try living as I do, with a volunteer body for you to get started. Emily and myself would be right beside you to help acclimate, and Kazumi works in an entirely different department at Hideki Tech so you won't be asked to do anything you don't wish--and of course, it is your choice as to whether or not you stay with Kazumi, so she would have to earn your trust."

Kazumi nodded vigorously.

Eventually, Yuki's transformations slowed further, until she had settled on a body similar to Kazumi's own, recognizing the origin of her name and picking a suitable exterior as a starting point. Yuki slowly stepped toward Kazumi, still squinting at her. "So long as you do not order me to do anything. I will find a new host if I feel I am being seen as anything less than another being."

Again, Kazumi nodded. Her nervousness was obvious, the tension was like a job interview gone wrong. Even Zoe had expected that Yuki would be far more eager to take a host after so long, with no strings attached. But, setting ground rules was important... Everyone else watched and waited, until in a blur of motion, Yuki opened up her body, untwisting like ribbons, as she struck at Kazumi like a coiled snake to wrap around her. Kazumi jumped back and held her arms up like she was defending herself, but when everything was done, Kazumi was gone--only Yuki's form remained, posed in the same defensive position.

At least for now, Yuki was onboard. There was much to do to make her feel more comfortable, but things were moving in the right direction. It was tempting to head back up to the labs and find ways to get Yuki to relax with the new life afforded to her. But at the same time, you had a genetic cure for the condition that would cause living bodysuits to tear themselves apart, and there was an opportunity to wake up at least two more bodysuits who could take yourself and Amanda as temporary hosts. Even if their cryo chambers were stable, the only reason to not wake more up would be to ensure the cure worked through monitoring Yuki first.

Go show Yuki a good time? Or, wake up more living bodysuits with the cure?
