Your new roommate Jackson...

"Hey, are you Alex?" he asked as he strutted in with a suitcase at his side. He gives you a toothy white grin, his blonde hair is short and slicked back. His eyes have a gleam to them, but something fake about them, as if he is giving a false front.

"Yeah, are you Jackson?"

"Yup! We are going to be roommates!" He said as he extended a hand to shake. You took it and flinched, his shake was impressively stronger than you thought.

"I just got here a second ago, did you want the right or the left of the room?" You ask, getting down to business.

"I prefer the side away from the door if you don't mind."

Shit. There goes any privacy the whole year, you thought as you nod and feign a smile. "Sure thing."

"Thanks, man. Girls are more willing if people won't see them right away with the door swinging." Jackson said as he swung his suitcase onto his claimed bed.

He swaggered over to the door again and swung it open calling out. "Over here Mom, Dad!"

In a moment the room was filled with suitcases and boxes, as Jackson's mom, dad, and younger brother all dropped their heavy loads onto the dorm room floor.

"Thanks, Mom, Dad, and Ian," Jackson said as he gave each a hug, his white toothy grin was punchable to you. Something about him since you met him just felt fake.

"Oh son, I'm so glad to see you grown up. Have fun in college." Jackson's mom said as she gave him another hug.

You sit awkwardly at your bed, watching the tearful goodbyes. Not a soul even acknowledges you as Jackson waves goodbye into the hallway and then shuts the door. His face turning from his white, toothy grin, to a more serious look.

"Thank god they are gone, am I right?" Jackson asked you, as he started to unpack his things. "My mom can be..."

"Seemed normal to me. My mom was the same way."

Jackson gives you a look and smiles his toothy grin again. "Alec, I think we are going to get along just fine as roommates."

You find yourself raising an eyebrow, " I think so Jackson, but my name is Alex. Might help us get along better if you paid attention. "

Jackson still smiling, "Didn't I say Alex?"

You just let it go. Jackson was going to be that kind of roommate. You were pretty sure....
