Your Conjurations project

"You'll be working through these classic conjurations," Mrs. Travers says, gesturing with her silver clockwork hand to a battered hard-bound book. "Though every moment has its special imprint, and every working of magic its own unique current, these conjurations have faced the test of time, and provide suitable challenge while limiting the danger of overreach. Ahem. Class, what have we been practicing most frequently?"

"Banishing, Circles, and Dismissal, Mrs. Travers!" your class replies in chorus. It's been a common refrain the last few weeks, and never fails to wake you up if you've been dozing.

"Very good, class," she says, "Clearing your working area, clearing your mind, making a strong circle to exclude contrary influences, and being ever ready to dismiss a conjuration make the difference between the true Witch or Wizard and the careless amateur playing with fire."

Mrs. Travers is diligent about repeating these points. Not without purpose; twice you've seen students set light to their robes, to be quenched with a word and a twitch of Mrs. Travers' gleaming fingers. When demonstrating technique, she always uses her wand, but she seems to have little need of it for channeling magic energies. Though perhaps she should be, just for precision. Poor Crisp and his shredded robes.

"Now here are your projects," she continues. "Saltire..."

Mrs. Travers goes through the class, assigning projects and partners for the first major project in Conjurations. Reading from the battered tome, she gestures with a gleaming silver finger, turning pages without actually touching the book.

"Ahem, ah, Redmoor," she says. "You've been doing extra lesson with Nurse. Let's see you do the Binding Vines. But you'll need a subject, ah..."

"Me!" Rebecca says. "I'll be the subject." She nods her head vigorously, her braid tossing. She pushes her glasses back up her nose.

"Shouldn't it be someone more..." you begin. Someone a bit bigger and stronger?

"Very well!" Mrs. Travers says. "Redmoor, Conjuration of the Binding Vines, subject, Honeybee. Honeybee, Conjuration of the Shimmering Cloak. Carrying on..."

You're too tired to protest, so you acquiesce. Does Rebecca really want to be wrapped up in vines?

Dorothy the Porter, Marina Madeline, Housemaster Fergus Firetail, and Miss Wormwood are your FRIENDS and each will freely grant one FAVOR. Your familiar Sapienta also counts as a FRIEND with a FAVOR.

Possible next Moves:

• Use your FAVOR with Miss Wormwood to get her to remove your CONSEQUENCE. (A little special here, but she's the Nurse, and your CONSEQUENCE is physical). You could follow this with practice, or trying to ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL.
• ENCOUNTER one of your FRIENDS to help remove your CONSEQUENCE. It's possible that HAVE SEX may be involved.
• Practice for performing the conjuration. Roll +CUNNING(+0) (+1 Cunning, -1 CONSEQUENCE) (Custom Move). On a 10+, take +1 Forward on performing the conjuration. On a 7-9, take +1 Forward on performing the conjuration, but either faint (GET OUT OF THE INFIRMARY) or fumble, assaulting your schoolmates with invasive, binding vines, making an ENEMY, requiring you to GET OUT OF TROUBLE, or requiring you to DEAL WITH YOUR HANGER-ON. On a Miss, take either previous complication but gain no bonus.
• Practice your conjuration with Rebecca as the subject. Treat this as APPEASE YOUR HANGER-ON. Roll +AMBITION(-3) (-1 AMBITION, -1 HANGER-ON, -1 CONSEQUENCE). You may use Sapienta's FAVOR for a +2, using your familiar's subtle senses to read Rebecca's feelings and fears, or Marina's FAVOR for a +2 (putting Rebecca in a good mood with sexual favors).
