Chapter 8 by Zebra Zebra

So what will you do while the blacksmith is busy working on your armor and your weapons?

You want to interview a witness. This is a local peasant named Jacob.

After the usual polite, meaningless chatter, you learn from the Blacksmith where the house of the peasant Jacob is located.

The Smith is a little surprised by your desire to communicate with this villager. However in a casual tone, he explains a little about the man. “Jacob... is a stupid and quarrelsome guy who lives in an old house in the north-eastern part of the village. As you pass by, you will recognize this house. A rickety fence, a shed with a broken door in the yard and piles of firewood near the wall of the house. This is immediately noticeable. I would not advise you to communicate with Jacob. He is an eccentric and rude person. It is unlikely that you can learn anything useful from him. But if you are interested in checking, you can try to talk to him...” You thank the Smith for the information, before wandering off through the village.

It’s morning, the sun’s rays illuminate the ground, which is covered in snow. The air is cold and the snow does not melt. This is not surprising, because in this high mountain area it has always been much cooler than in the lowland areas. You wrap yourself in your fur cloak. Luckily, your fur clothing is designed for traveling in these cold conditions.

However, you still feel the cold, a frosty breeze blowing on your face.

You walk through the village and you see some local people.

Most of the peasants are now busy and rushing about their usual routine affairs. Life in the village always requires regular and hard work. And now your gaze notices peasants who are carrying logs (probably to repair some building), peasant women who are carrying sheaves of twigs and branches from the forest (obviously, this is fuel for the stoves that warm the huts). You also see peasant children carrying containers of pet food.

Thanks to the Blacksmith's directions, you find the house of the peasant Jacob in just ten minutes.

This house really looks run down. It is not difficult to guess that the owner of this dwelling is a poor peasant.

You knock on the door.

No answer.

You knock again.

The sounds of footsteps are heard from the house.

Thirty seconds later you hear a hoarse voice: "What kind of shiteater is knocking on the door? What the fuck do you want?"

You will recognize this voice. This is the peasant Jacob (you remember his voice when he was arguing with Durlen in the inn; this happened last night).

The door remains closed.

Such an uncivil manner of communication somewhat discourages you.

But your determination to learn information that can be useful in your hunt motivates you to persist.

You say out loud: “I am a famous hunter! My name is Raul the Wolf-killer! I want to talk to you, Jacob. I need to find out more details about the beast’s habits and any suspicious details you saw.”

In response to your words, a chuckle comes from behind the closed door.

Jacob then says in a mocking tone, "Famous hunter... Raul the Wolfkiller! I advise you to curb your ego, asshole! By the way: your stupid nickname sounds like something you came up with when you were five years old and regularly shitting in your pants! Ha! Ha! Yes, I already heard from someone that you went to Old Ditmar's Gorge and were able to survive an encounter with a monster. You're probably just lucky. But at least you now know that what that fucking cocksucker Durlen said is just bullshit. The problems in our village are much more serious than just an “ordinary” wolf!”

The creak of a poorly oiled door. The door opens.

The owner of this house lets you inside.

You hear Jacob’s voice, who has gone somewhere deeper into the room: “Let’s quickly go inside, you clumsy asshole! Don't waste my time! You can ask what you need to know. I'll tell you what I know."

You go inside the house.

So, communication with Jacob is “specific”, but you should try to learn at least something useful.
