Chapter 3 by Trom1806 Trom1806

Which life path will you choose?

You think that if you join the caravan as a guard, it wouldn't be such a bad idea...

You reflect on the fact that your life in this provincial border town was actually a series of tests of the fortitude of your character and the strength of your muscles...

The overwhelming majority of the residents of this city were prejudiced against you: the dominant stereotype regarding you was the idea that you were a dangerous, aggressive and stupid half-breed savage...

Most of the inhabitants of the city of Renalborg were human. People usually looked at you with contempt as soon as they saw the features of your appearance that indicate that your father was an orc... It was not so rare for you to use the power of your fists in fights with drunken people who rashly decided that they could mock you only because they had a slight numerical advantage... You remember with satisfaction how a couple of weeks ago you thoroughly beat up three drunken humans near tavern "The Jolly Fat Man". It was a mistake for these drunken humans to try to intimidate you and try to extort money from you...

Some residents of the city of Ranelborg, who belonged to the local dwarven community, sometimes hypocritically tried to communicate with you using ostentatious deceitful friendliness.

However, contrary to stereotypes, you were smart enough to sense the true motives behind this unexpectedly polite interaction on the part of these dwarves.

It was not difficult for you to guess that these enterprising dwarves were thinking something like this about you: “That tall, muscular half-orc must be dumb as a cork! Perhaps a smart enough manipulator could use the power of this half-breed bastard for significant personal gain! Anyway, why not try..."

Other residents of the city of Ranelborg, who belonged to the community of local half-elves, more often experienced a feeling of disgust and fear towards you and, therefore, tried to avoid communication with you or reduce this communication to a minimum...

Worse, in addition to the insulting prejudices of the city's residents, your desire to achieve success in life was hindered even by the laws of the Sacred Kingdom of Orlania...

The laws of the Sacred Kingdom of Orlania prohibit half-orcs from receiving the title of nobleman. Also, according to the laws of the Eagle: half-orcs cannot own large real estate, half-orcs cannot occupy significant positions among officials or even in the army (in the army, the maximum available rank for a half-orc is the rank of sergeant).

You decide to leave the city of Ranelborg... You think that the best way to do this is to join a caravan as a guard...

You thought something like this: “I’ll have to become a guard in some trade caravan for a while... I’ll do the same thing that my mother did... In the end, I’ll earn some money and I’ll be able to leave this shitty border town together with a caravan..."

You collect your things, weapons and necessary supplies. You go to the market square of the city of Ranelborg and you will find out from the local merchants which caravans will soon leave this city.

So, you managed to find out that trade caravans will soon leave the city of Renelborg in several directions.

First, a large trade caravan will leave in the direction of the strongest dwarven state in this region - the Despotate of Yalann. That is, it will take a long time to walk: the caravan will go first in a western direction, and then in a northwestern direction... The caravan will have to move through vast wooded and hilly areas, and will have to cross several rivers. And you will also have to adapt to the fact that the climate will become colder...

Secondly, a small trade caravan will leave in the direction of the neighboring dwarven state - the Republic of Grondfarg. That is, the journey will not take long: the caravan will go in a northerly direction, cross the navigable Amber River, enter the territory of this neighboring dwarven state and reach the nearest dwarven city.

Thirdly, a medium-sized trade caravan will leave in the direction of a small human state - the Kingdom of Mortham. That is, you will have to walk for quite a long time. The caravan will go in a south-west direction, through vast forest areas. And you will also have to cross at least one river.

Fourth, a small trade caravan will board ships and travel along the navigable Amber River to the west. That is, this caravan will follow an internal route, through the territory of the Sacred Kingdom of Orlania, in the direction of the coastal orlanian city of Skelweerd.

So which of these caravans have you decided to join?
