Chapter 6

Who should pilot?
You take charge
"Alright move, I'll fly the shuttle."
"I know how to fly."
"That wasn't a question; it was a command. I have actual training and you can't even seem to find the TCAS switch." You said while flipping the right switch to get your point across. "Now move your ass and let me fly."
She looked like she wanted to argue for a while, but she finally moved with a "humpf", getting out of the pilot seat and into the co-pilot's. Meanwhile, you got behind the yoke and finished the preflight check as quickly as you could.
"Detach in 3... 2... 1..."
As soon as the shuttle disconnected from the ship, you were pressed forward against your seatbelt straps while atmospheric drag flung your shuttle from its port. You saw what remained of the ship shoot past you and quickly be engulfed in flames. To your relief however you also spotted what you thought might be other shuttles having detached from it. If it were indeed true, then it meant others had survived, possibly including your sisters.
You were quickly brought back to your own perilous situation as your shuttle began to pick up some unwanted spin, ground and sky exchanging place in the cockpit window at an alarming rate.
"Fuck, do something!" complained your brunette co-pilot.
"Activating emergency RCS thrusters." You grunted, your arm stretched towards the control panel fighting the will of the building g-****.
You were once again yanked about in your seat as the emergency thrusters brought the spinning to an abrupt end. The craft was now facing the rapidly approaching ground and the field of hurling derbies left by the disintegrating Skidbladnir.
Your descent was both too steep, and filled with dangerous debris. You had to slow down and get out of the way quickly.
You pulled the shuttle's nose up and to the left, exposing the craft's large underbelly, before then pointing it to the right. On you went; left, right, left, right, banking from side to side in a manoeuvre old space shuttles used to increase drag.
The loud rattling of the shuttle's hull was deafening. You could feel the heat increase inside the craft as the outside was now beginning to be engulfed in flames too. You finally managed to steer the shuttle clear from the debris trail and just in time as a large one flew past your previous descent path.
Still, you were falling faster than you'd like as alarms began to blare out.
"Slow down you idiot!"
"I'm doing my best!"
"Your best ain't good enough pal!"
"Oh god we're gonna die..." Came the timid remark from your blonde passenger.
You were going to have to perform an emergency landing procedure...
"Brace for impact!" you warned.
While the craft did work to slow down your descent, it could not stop itself from slamming into the ground with enough **** that had any of you been untethered, they would have been slammed against the roof. Instead you were tied down to the metal hulk as it slid across the floor of an alien world for a good 20 seconds before mercifully coming to a stop.
"Well..." you said panting "that could have gone worse."
The only answer was the sound of the blonde finally having too much and vomiting...
Another happy landing
