Chapter 14 by Gamma Boötis Gamma Boötis

Meanwhile, back at your apartment

You take a nap and then go for a walk

Deciding that the siren call of your bed is too much to handle, you slip into your sheets and lay down. Just for a moment, you think, scooting under the covers, just to rest your head. Just for a moment, you think, as your head touches the pillow.

You open your eyes and sit up with a start. The sky outside your window is a pale blue, crisscrossed with ribbons of vermillion clouds. Evening, you think. You stretch your arms over your head and sigh. You eye your clock, and double take. It’s awfully dark out for it being only 5:40 in the evening. And shouldn’t the light be in the western sky if the sun is setting, instead of the east, outside your window?

You blink.

It’s not Friday evening, it’s Saturday morning, you realize.

“No way,” you scoff, and drop out of bed. Your legs catch you this time, feeling suddenly springy and new. You take a few tentative steps and notice that the soreness you had been fighting is gone. Your morning wood greets you at attention and ready for action. Some things haven’t changed it seems. But the gnawing hunger in your stomach is back again.

You start searching for your cell phone, hunting through your hamper for the pants you had been wearing the day before yesterday. Eventually, you find them, still spotting their noticeable cum stain that leaves your pants crackling as you fish your phone out of your pocket.

With its final percentage of battery, your phone lets you know that it is 5:40 on Saturday morning, and that you have a half dozen missed calls and voice messages before dying.

You sigh, plug your expired phone into its charger and go about making yourself breakfast as your stomach aches painfully.

You start frying up some eggs to put on toast, starting with two, over coffee. You manage to scarf them down in mere seconds, still piping hot off the grill and before the toast even pops off.

You throw down another pair of eggs and pop another pair of toast bread slices into the toaster, eating another raw slice of bread just to tide you over. You are shortly lost in the cycle of cooking and eating, trying to satiate your new found hunger.

You suddenly stop, realizing that you’ve gone through a half dozen sunny side up eggs and half a loaf of toast bread just to fill yourself up for the morning. You rub your head, wondering for a moment if this is something Vernius did to you to make that happen as well while putting your dishes in the dishwasher.

Sufficiently caffeinated and finding your legs no longer sore and your feet suddenly itchy from sleeping a whole day away, you decide to go for an early morning walk. It should also give yourself some time to think about what all you should do to fulfill Vernius’ request for sparks. You don a sweatshirt and sweatpants over your sleep clothes and put on your shoes.

Stepping out into the crisp morning air invigorates you, and you quickly start to walk down the stairs in front of your dorm.

Your apartment complex is mercifully quiet, though you can see a few empty beer bottles, a pool of puke, and still smoldering cigarette butts around one of the picnic tables as you walk by them.

You walk out of the apartment complex proper, not really with a place in mind, but you remember that there is a multi-use trail running along the train tracks that run through town.

You walk through town to the campus of Poly State, passing more evidence of last night’s debauchery, toilet paper stuck in trees, a couch left in the middle of a walkway, more puke, and more empty beer cans and bottles. There’s the scent in the cool air of poor decisions.

On the far side of the campus, you walk through the municipal park, over the creek that bisects the park, and then come to the trail. It is a wide cement multi-use trail that runs off into the distance with the browning autumn growth of the park on one side and the railroad tracks on the other, stretching off in either direction.

You pick a direction and start walking, curious to see where it actually goes and also to clear your mind and focus.

The walk also gives you time to think. As you walk, you gaze down at your familiar and unfamiliar body. You have to admit that you definitely appreciate these gifts that Vernius gave you so far. But you're still not used to this being your body, you have to admit. Plus, you have to wonder what the other gifts that Vernius was talking about exactly were considering how veiled her language actually was.

Your eyes snap to a railroad signal on the far side of the railroad tracks as it changes from red to green, still walking with measured and purposeful steps.

Part of you wants to see Vernius again, maybe just to clarify some things about your powers, what they actually do for you in a way that you can understand, or perhaps even a practical demonstration, you think, your cock throbbing in agreement.

You watch your breath puff out of your mouth into the morning air in front of you.

Maybe Vernius could explain this whole sparks thing in plain English. She said that sparks are connected to making babies, so are they like souls? Do they generate from fertilization or at birth? Because if it's the latter, you're in it for the long haul by the looks of it. Nevermind the deep philosophical connotations of actually having a soul. Or coming face to face with a living deity. Maybe you want to see Vernius so that she can guide you a little more. Or maybe just so that you can find a better way to directly get a hold of her that doesn't rely on her invading your dreams. You groan.

While you are deep in thought―
