Chapter 28 by Trom1806 Trom1806

You manage to get some sleep. Delirious dreams do not bother your exhausted mind. And then…

You suddenly wake up due to some monotonous noise.

You wake up after an undetermined amount of time. You hear snoring. It is obvious that Oolok and Franz are sleeping. This fact is probably due to the fact that you woke up in the middle of the night.

It would seem that you should just try to sleep again.

But you feel something not quite ordinary.

You listen. In addition to creaking wood and other normal sounds, you hear something strange.

You hear a quiet noise that is somewhat reminiscent of the grinding of metal. This noise repeats with some frequency.

Apprehensions arise in your mind: “What do these sounds mean? Could these sounds be signs of a problem? Is this a new possible threat to me?”

Your thoughts are somewhat paranoid. In a normal situation, such fears would be clearly excessive. But the problem is that over the past weeks you have been in a completely abnormal situation. Your usual life as one of the servants in the tavern was destroyed in the most sudden and brutal way. You are being pursued by mysterious and cruel persons who want to kill you. You were **** to flee the city of Skelweerd, near which you have lived your entire life.

All these facts have left an indelible imprint on your mind. You have become a much more suspicious person than you were before.

Therefore, you decide to find out the cause of these strange sounds that caused you to wake up in the middle of the night.

You rise from a lying position. Now you are sitting on the bed. The cabin space is dark. There are no light sources (the lamp is extinguished due to night time). It takes a couple of minutes for your vision to get used to the darkness. As a result, you can distinguish the silhouettes of bodies and objects in the dark.

You see in the dark the silhouettes of pieces of furniture, the silhouettes of the bodies of your companions.

The strange noise repeats again.

The source of these sounds is clearly somewhere outside your cabin.

You stand up and take a couple of steps towards the door that leads into the corridor.

You almost fell because of the unpleasant pain. Your bandaged wounds continue to hurt a lot.

You endure the pain and slowly walk out into the corridor.

Upon superficial inspection, it seems to you that there is no one in this dark corridor except you. You look around the corridor and you listen.

Creaking wood. Splash of water. Rustle (probably ship rats).

You think: “It is most likely that the source of the strange noise is located next to my cabin...”

If you go along the corridor to the right, then there is cabin number 3. The old human merchant Cornelius Oberkap lives in this cabin. The image of this person formed your impression of his boring and harmless character. You think that this human is more inclined to read books than to take any active actions.

If you go along the corridor to the left, then there is cabin number 5. An elf passenger lives in this cabin. You don't even know his name. This elf is a strange person. You remember what you saw when this elf let two sailors into his cabin. An obscene and amazing sight...

So which direction will you decide to go?
