Chapter 2 by juneboi2 juneboi2

What do you do at school?

You stop time first.

You're sitting in your Viper when you realize that you suddenly have a lot to think about. You pause time for everyone else to give yourself a moment to work through it. You look out your window to see birds suspended mid-air and cars standing still on the road.

Okay, so apparently, there really aren't any limits. You can stop time with just a thought. You can do whatever you want, know whatever you want, and have whatever you want, and all it takes is a passing thought and willing it to be.

That's dangerous. Really dangerous. Not just to the rest of the world, but also to you. How do you know that you haven't already been fundamentally changed by absolute power?

You decide to explore this power, but you want to do so safely, so you elect to impose some temporary limits, just until you got the hang of it. After all, it would only take half a thought to wipe everything from existence, including yourself.

Alright, first up, you're not the only one with power. You're the only one with access to absolute power, but you realize that being the only reality-warping being in any situation would get lonely, fast. You summon a notepad and a pen and jot down some ideas. You know there's no real reason to do this, but it helps you think, and you're not quite ready to surpass all mortal capacity.

After a few minutes of scrawling ideas down and scratching some of them out, you come up with a set of premises that promise to be fun.

1: .0025 percent of the human population has the capacity to warp a specific aspect of reality at will. These individuals are secretive and paranoid about their power, and rarely encounter one another in the wild. This trait is not genetic, but random. Most can only change things pertaining to the present, such as being able to shapeshift or mind control, but a select few can instead gain insights unnatural to what they should be able to know. They can't use their powers on each other.

2: You're the only one able to use your powers to the fullest, but not for another day. For now, you can only know whatever you want to know the moment that you want to know it. No other powers, not that you think you'll need any.

3: Those with powers only begin to have powers as of yesterday morning.

4: The use of powers goes unremarked by the public eye, and the only way for history to feel the weight of the existence of those like you would be if they changed the course of nations.

You look over this and nod. If you warped the world around you all the time, nothing would feel like it mattered. This way, you not only have limits, but you also have playmates. If you don't like it, you can change it tomorrow.

You restart time and will the changes into effect, careful to do those things in that order. No sooner than you've willed it does it become reality. You only have one power now, but you're excited to use it.

You start your new car and drive to school, excited to see what the day will bring.

What is school like when you get there?
