Chapter 17

How will you respond to merchant Jodaz's offer?
You reject merchant Jodaz's offer. You are not interested in walking around this city.
You tell the merchant Jodaz: “If you really want to walk around the city, then you can do it without me. Sorry, Jodaz! But I’m not interested in walking around this city. The locals only annoy me because they look at my greenish face as if I want to devour them."
Jodaz says: “You are a very boring guy! You don’t have even the slightest curiosity, Ulkin! Okay, I’ll go without you.”
You say: “But I insist that at least one caravan guard go with you. I don’t want you to be robbed by some local beggars.”
Jodaz replies: “This is not at all necessary. But if that’s what you want, then I agree. I’ll at least chat with this guard.”
You select one of the guards who knows how to handle weapons at least at an average level. You do not specifically engage a novice guard to accompany Jodaz. You understand that novice guards are still of little use. In a risky situation, they may simply run away out of fear.
Jodaz and the guard leave.
You continue with your daily duties. You train yourself and you watch how the other guards of the caravan go through training fights.
You check the caravan guard patrols that pass along the perimeter of this building.
You check your own equipment, weapons and chain mail. Tomorrow your caravan must continue its journey north and you understand that you need to be well prepared for this.
It's late evening.
Suddenly, the head of all the guards of this caravan, the dwarf Belknab, comes into your room.
You see that he has a gloomy appearance.
He comes up to you and says: “A fucking shitty event happened. A representative of the city guard of the city of Teinlund spoke to me just now. Two corpses were found in the northwestern quarter of the city. The first corpse is the body of the merchant Jodaz. The second corpse is the body of one of the guards of our caravan, who accompanied Jodaz. Each of them had their throats cut. All the valuables were taken from the bodies. Apparently that old idiot Jodaz met some local gang on his way. Why the fuck did that shit-headed cocksucker Jodaz decide to go somewhere!? Couldn't it have been done without idiotic walks!?"
You ask the dwarf Belknab: "What are the consequences for us?"
Belknab angrily swore and replied: “Obviously, the consequences for us are the worst! Customs documents for crossing the border with the Despotate of Yalann were issued in the name of Jodaz. Since he is dead, the caravan will not go anywhere. The caravan will be disbanded. The goods will be temporarily stored in a warehouse local trade guild. The search for heirs will begin. And we will not be paid the full amount under the contract due to the fact that the caravan did not reach its destination - the dwarven fortress city of Dreygrul!"
You ask him: “So what will you do?”
Dwarf Belknab: “I will tell all the guards of our caravan that they can either go wherever they want, or wait a little while I look for a new order for us. I will talk to local influential people and find out if they can offer us some kind of work. And not a fact that the new work will be the protection of the caravan."
With these words, dwarf Belknab leaves your room, angrily slamming the door.
So, your caravan has been disbanded. What will you do next?
