Chapter 6
by Dm
Who should pilot?
You let her fly
Right now was not the time to get into arguments you thought. Besides, she had managed to get the shuttle's power online and complete the undocking procedures so she must know SOME stuff about operating a shuttle...
You hopped into the co-pilot seat and helped the girl finish bringing the remaining systems online.
"Detach in 3... 2... 1..."
As soon as the shuttle disconnected from the ship, you were pressed forward against your seatbelt straps while atmospheric drag flung your shuttle from its port.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit." The brunette pilot swore as your craft began to pick up unwanted rotation.
You saw what remained of the ship shoot past you and quickly be engulfed in flames. To your relief however you also spotted what you thought might be other shuttles having detached from it. If it were indeed true, then it meant others had survived, possibly including your sisters.
"I'm loosing control!"
You were quickly brought back to your own perilous situation as your spin began to speed up, ground and sky exchanging place in the cockpit's window at an alarming rate.
"Activating emergency RCS thrusters." You grunted, your arm stretched towards the control panel fighting the will of the building g-****.
You were once again yanked about in your seat as the emergency thrusters brought the spinning to an abrupt end. The craft was now facing the rapidly approaching ground and the field of hurling debris left by the disintegrating Skidbladnir.
"Our descent is too steep..." You commented.
"I know..."
"We got to slow down or we'll burn up in the atmosphere."
"I know..."
"The planet is also tidally lock, so you want to aim for the habitable twilight-"
"I KNOW!"
The loud rattling of the shuttle's hull took over as you fell silent. You could feel the heat increase inside the craft as the outside was now beginning to be engulfed in flames too. The craft shook violently as what you assumed was a piece of debris hit you. You could only hope it didn't damage anything vital.
"Oh god we're gonna die..." Came the timid remark from your blonde passenger.
But you didn't. And as the craft slowed and the flame dispersed you started to believe once again that everything was going to be okay...
That is until the shuttle pierced the cloud layer and you remarked the ground was approaching way to fast.
"Pull up! Pull up! Pull up!"
"I'M TRYING, BUT THE STUPID THING WONT DO AS I SAY!"
That piece of debris, you mused, did hit something vital...
"BRACE FOR IMPACT!" You shouted.
While the craft did work to slow down your descent, it could not stop itself from slamming into the ground with enough **** that had any of you been untethered, they would have been slammed against the roof. Instead you were tied down to the metal hulk as it slid across the floor of an alien world for a good 20 seconds before mercifully coming to a stop.
"Well..." the brunette pilot said panting "that could have gone worse."
The only answer was the sound of the blonde finally having too much and vomiting...
Another happy landing
